Which traits did you pick?

Post » Sun Apr 24, 2011 11:57 pm

I haven't got the game yet (damn you international release date), so which traits do you think are worth the most? I'd say Trigger Discipline and Wild Wasteland are the useful ones.

BTW, I haven't included the effects of the traits as you only need to choose the ones you picked, so the effects are http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout:_New_Vegas_traits if you are from the same viewpoint as me and don't have the game yet.

I had to have Wild Wasteland, solely due to it's description. It sounds like my cup o' tea. The second was Four Eyes, which I changed from Built to Destroy at my 2nd chance. From what I have read, Four Eyes may have been a mistake, but Built to Destroy had the weapons degrading to fast for my liking, 15% faster degradation isn't worth 3% crit chance.

I picked Good Natured and Wild Wasteland. I'm not sure if I've encountered more strange things than normal, but I did encounter these two bodies where a '...' message popped up.

Had one as well, but a skeleton in a fridge with a fedora. Same '...' and "spooky" music when it happened.

Good Natured and Trigger Discipline. Good natured kinda screwed me over in getting my melee up for the cowboy perk but I'll live.

I picked Four Eyes and Wild Wasteland. Four eyes for two reasons, I wear corrective lenses in real life and usually wore some in FO3, so I figured a Perception bonus wouldn't hurt. And Wild Wasteland, just to see what it's like. I got my first one yesterday, the previously mentioned Skeleton in the fridge with a fedora. Didn't even get the joke until now. I actually didn't even realize that was the perk until it was mentioned here.

Built to destroy and Good Natured.

Built to destroy has relatively simple logic behind it. I'm paying caps/equipment for an additional three points of luck toward my critical chance. Ingame, i'm sure people will gladly spend thousands of caps to upgrade their luck just once and yet still think built to destroy is a bad deal. For the purposes of combat it's almost as good as the finesse perk, three times as good as intense training and you get to select it as a trait.
Think of it this way. If an NPC in Fallout 3 had offered you a perk to increase your critical chance by three in exchange for ten hunting rifles, a chinese assault rifle and a few misc items i imagine most people would have taken the offer.

If you're particularly concerned about it, there are ways to compensate for the faster wear and tear ingame.

Good Natured just fits my personality and playstyle. More importantly, assuming you only spec 2 combat skills, three max, then you're looking at 15 bonus skill points considering you're guaranteed to get some benifit out of the non combat skills to some extent. That's equivalent to an entire level up at 10 intelligence. One of the few traits where the benifit clearly outweighs the cost.

Loose Cannon (was wanting to mess with throwing weapons) + Good Natured, considering a re-roll however. Only hour and half in..

Four Eyes and Trigger Discipline. Now if only I could find a pair of glasses...... :D

(Finally got a "Ball Cap w/Glasses" off a powder ganger, but I'd like to ditch the hat.)

I took Wild Wasteland and shortly after leaving Doc's I got some weird music and the perk's icon in the upper right and found a hat with a skeleton inside of a fridge. O.o

Kamikaze and Trigger Discipline. Don't like the -2 DT, but I wanted the action points for VATS.

Kiralyn. I got the same as you! Woot! And I got a desperado hat off one of the powder gangers. There is a pair of reading glasses in a house near docs, not far from the general store. Just beware the karma for stealing them. But it's also +2 perception

Trigger Discipline is incredible. Oh no, I shoot slower! Is that a stick of dynamite in your hand or are you very unhappy to see me?

I probably wouldn't, as I usually use sniper rifles and long range weaponry to get a few hits before they're near enough to chew my ears off. Plus, you won't be able to carry enough extra weapons / repair kits if you play hardcoe, or probably in another game mode to constantly fix your guns. HC already makes weapons degrade quickly anyway...

I took Wild Wasteland and shortly after leaving Doc's I got some weird music and the perk's icon in the upper right and found a hat with a skeleton inside of a fridge. O.o

Everyone's seen that, apparently. Indie reference FTW! Though the new one got pretty bad as it went through...

I did a runthrough to level 8 with one character with built to destroy, then did a second one with built and fast shot. Fast shot is truly amazing. I'm not sure is the -20% accuracy is only in vats, but it doesn't seem to be affecting me at all thus far. I'm picking guys off from as far away as I can see them, and I never really use vats.

The firing rate increase is SIGNIFICANT, and I can say that having played with and without it. It helps a ton with the lever actions guns, shot guns, and non auto pistols. Definitely a trait I will consider taking on subsequent playthroughs.

Edit- Built to Destroy seemed like a no brainer to me as well, especially since I always tag repair anyway. With a high luck I crit basically anything that gets shot more than once.

I'm looking forward to seeing more player impressions of the various traits. I just went with Wild Wasteland and Four Eyes myself. I kind of wish Wild Wasteland wasn't a trait, because from what I'm hearing, I definitely want that in every playthrough, but it also svcks to have to use up one of your two traits just for that. I wish it was optional but not a trait, kind of like hardcoe is.

I was kind of worried about Four Eyes at first, but I managed to find a pair of goggles within a few hours of playing so that helped.

I'll probably go for Good Natured, Wild Wasteland or Trigger Discipline. Not entirely sure yet, 2 of those 3 though.

Also does Trigger Discipline increase your chance to hit in VATS as well as free aim or not?

I picked Kamikaze and Four Eyes.

I figured the 2DR could be made up pretty easily, but 10AP is very useful. Four Eyes because in FO3 I was always wearing glasses or shades, and I myself wear glasses. Also didn't think the -1PER wasn't that bad of a negative when not wearing them.

I took a while to decide if I wanted to do Wild Wasteland or not. I chose not to. The reason was that I'm doing hardcoe mode and want a bit more immersive experience. While I do love the pop-culture based humor in FO3, it can kinda pull you out of the game at times.

I figure eventually I'll start a second character and then I'll give Wild Wasteland a try.

If you haven't ventured too far from Goodsprings yet, then yes, you will. You'll get the chance to remake your character and you can add the traits at that time.

If you've already passed that point, then you're out of luck, unless there's a console command to add them (assuming you're using the PC, that is).

No PC, playing on a 360 and I ventured to Prim, but my character is low enough and my game is not long that I would not mind going back
