Who are the "good guys" in the Mojave?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 7:26 pm

The Followers and the Kings are the only "good" factions. I'm tempted to say Boomers, too, but they have expressed a marked desire to bomb the wasteland to ashes with their new plane.

Only because they (rightly) believe that most other people in the wasteland are a bunch of [censored]s, and deserve whatever is coming to them.

And that justifies their actions?

MINOR SPOILERS!

The NCR are neutral to me. They may protect people but end up being corrupt. I respect Mr. House because he does not wish to rule. He just wants to rebuild humanity. Did you know that in 100 years; he would've had humans on another planet. NOW THAT IS PROPER! :D

The Followers are the good guys in the end. Not even the Legion would harm them.

In a post-apocalyptic wasteland where just about everyone is trying to [censored] up your [censored]? Sure, why not?

Mr. House is ok with slavery since he allows it on the Strip at the Gomorrah. That unquestionably rules him out to me.

Really?
Spoiler
In my ending slides, the Legion allowed safe passage of the FotA back to California. The narrator mentions something about lingering sympathy from Caesar because he was once a Follower. Did you kill or allow Caesar to die before you beat the game on the Legion side? I fixed his heart condition or w/e.

It was either Joanna or Dazzle who mentioned
Spoiler
in the Gomorrah Courtyard, that the Omertas bought them. They are both wearing slave collars I believe.
If I misremembered, please let me know. It made a difference in my game.

I don't see it as he's okay with it, it's that if he tried to go in, it'd be a frontal assault on Gomorrah, not very good for business, and money is very vital for his plans for the future.

So, you're saying he's making a choice based on economics and not what's best for people?

Well, Harlow makes choices too and she hates slavery with a passion - so Mr. House is going down. :)

The Followers - but no way could they become any sort of leading faction, because they're just too good; they'd get crushed by anyone/everyone who is more ruthless or calculating. So I voted NCR too, as they've got the right idea (kind of... lol). I like that many factions can be "persuaded" to become a bit more nicer - makes this dog eat dog wasteland seem a bit more optimistic :P

It's not soley economics. It's economics for the future of mankind. Also, I don't think Mr. House is as all knowing as he is implied to be, what goes on on the Strip proper he knows, but in each casino he doesnt. He doesnt know about Mortimer, he might not know about the Omertas and their drug slavery.

Where is the "none of the above" choice? Each has their good and bad points. None of them is supposed to be a clear good guy.

Seriously. Obviously the "Good Guys" are the ones trying help humanity recover and move forward- thus Mr. House, NCR, and the Legion.

While the "Bad Guys" are the domineering groups that have to have everything "their way or else"- thus Mr. House, NCR, and the Legion.

I agree. But OP put "Good Guy" which led me to believe "Good" in our eyes. And in my eyes, a few of them were good guys, some were just outright evil and some just kind of there.

As righteous as some of the NCR appear in the Mojave, the fact remains that they're effectively annexing territory and expanding in the same way Caesar's Legion is. I think one of the Remnants really hit the nail on the head when he said that the NCR was conquering with legislation, establishing themselves in a region and claiming that they have legal precedence over occupied land, then using their laws to restrict the actions of locals. In a way, it's even more insidious that Caesar's outright slaughter. With Caesar, you know he's a natural antagonist if you're just a regular farmer in the Mojave, but the NCR slips in and conquers silently, and before you know it, your Brahmin are getting taxed, and your land is now owned by the government.

Just because they tax you, and you are under paying taxes to a government doesnt mean they are bad. Your going to need an organised governmet to rebuild human civilization. Taxes is gonna be one of the way's you get clean water, new health care systems in place, police forces, roads through out the new country and defence from teh wilds of the wastes. To say because they arrive and say "You are now part of the NCR, you gonna pay taxes, adn we gonna rebuild civilization" isnt fair. Sunny Smiles from Godsprings says the same thing, She does not like how they just showed up and forcefully integrated Goodsprings, but they keep the roads safe, and I'd assume tehy probably have somethign to do with the Pumps south of Goodsprings. They were also trying to build railroads in Nevada, probably for troops but it could still help transportation of civilian personnel.

Liek most people have said its grey, not black and white. Caesar even tells you he plans on building an empire liek Rome, but Rome also had good quality of living (for its time) for its Citizens. If you talk to Dale Barton at Fortification Hill, he seems to think things are pretty good back in teh Four States Commonwealth, just as long as you dont try selling Chems. So nobody seems that evil, they just have their different ways of living.

The NCR pumps its taxes into three things from what I've seen and noted.

1. Military campaigns (but not to each individual soldier)
2. The wealth of the politicians
3. Cities and counties in NCR, not neccassarily NCR conquered territory.

The NCR are overbearing bullies in my opinion, take Jacobstown for example, they hired mercs to try and provoke an attack out of the Super Mutants, who live in quiet, isolated solitude and pose no threat to the outside world. Also, they basically make you join, or they force you to join, NCR are self-righteous pricks in my opinion. Not every man, but as a whole the government body is.

I'll take "guys" and gals in the good, as in NCR has by far a hell of a lot of good guy's in it, apart from 3 borderline sociopaths gals and guys and a few other greedy ones so they're good in my eyes.

Followers, are by far the goodest good guys in NV.

Jacobstown, some are mad but most are generally good.

Khan's I love them the most, and are more chaotic neutral / to C N good then anything in actions towards the player, but still neutral in the scheme of things.

Crimson Caravn, buisness minded neutral in general, but considering the actions of a few in it lead to many supply problems neutral neutral evil imo.

Kings, good but likely to sway their hips either way depending on circumstances.

Mr House, I find him a tool tbh, but has his good intentions I suppose.

CL, lets list, INTENTIONAL sixual violence, murder, sixual descrimination, genocide, slavery, torture, beating, humiliation, tyranny, terrorism tactics, lack of respect for their own troops, forced suicide, brain washing, destruction / pollution / of land and bodies.
Plus for those that seem to match all the above on the same evil scale as taxation?, they take half the goods of any merchant that signs up, or kills those that don't so evil.

Why isn't there an 'ugly' option?

We've got the 'good', we've got the 'bad', and keeping with the western theme we should have an 'ugly' one....

I think it would be a toss-up between Mr House and Rotface...

I don't think ANYONE is a "good guy" in the mojave.

NCR is widely corrupt and rather brutal in their expansion (though in the Mojave they're far less facist than in FO2). Caesar isn't exactly a good guy, but he's not a bad guy either. Citizens are safer there than in the NCR, and the widespread raider gangs and drug use of the NCR is under control in the east.

The BoS is neutral but brutal in their pursuit of their (limited and self-serving) goals.

Honestly, I think the closest thing to "good guys" is probably Utobithia, actually: They are what they were made to be, big, strong and dumb. They think they're doing the right thing keeping humans away from dangerous, irradiated areas, caring for centaurs and protecting their property from human raiders and they genuinely can't understand why humans insist on assaulting them. They aren't raiding or marauding unlike the other remains of The Master's Army or their East Coast brethren, they just want to be left alone.
