"Uthgerd the Unbroken" is the best deal in the game. She's got a nice big house in Whiterun, she's *never* there (always at the local pub), so you have it all for yourself and she gives you 100 bucks a day for keeping the fire going at home.

I could never decide who to marry. I thought about killing my wife (if I could decide) and then revive her with Dead Thrall to see if I could interact with her.

Since i only look at her once a week (in-game) when i pick up my share of the earnings from her "store", that really isn't much of a problem for me ...

He can be married, but the Radiant system seems to have a habit of locking that option out. It'll do this for other NPCs as well. My character has the option to marry Erik (and is planning on it, eventually) but doesn't have the option to marry Roggi Knot-Beard, even though I've met the requirements, for instance.

I married Aela once, just to see what happened, but re-loaded afterwards. I didn't like the way she just walked out after the ceremony without a word, (plus I couldn't get over the look of sadness on Lydia's face as she sat there watching...roll on patch 1.5!)

Had one of my female khajiit characters marry that Argonian who works down the docks in Solitude. What with defeating Alduin and what have you, I figured she'd prefer a bit of rough.

Marry a housecarl. They run a shop, they cook and they can tag along in your adventurers.

Pick one up from loot, a shop or go back to the priest in Riften and you can buy a new one from him.

Knowing Erik, he's just upset you never take him anywhere. When he said he wanted to go on adventures, he didn't mean adventures in cooking and owning a business! (Ahem. This is a glitch that can happen to any spouse, actually. Not sure if there's a fix off the top of my head. Kind of suits Erik's character if you're keeping him home all the time though. :P)

I've always been impartial to the dark elf Janassa at the Drunken Huntsman in Whiterun. 500 septims hires her services as an assassin mercenary, and she'll still follow you on quests if you marry her.
