Who's the best Dead Thrall candidate?

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 5:21 am

I've been carrying Orchendor and Sebastian Lort but I think now it's time for a little change.

Both of them are very strong mages so I want to replace one of them -more likely Sebastian cause he doesn't have kick ass teleport ability that Orchendor has- by a warrior type character
and I want the corpse to be a named NPC because if it is not, there is huge possibility that if I lost him during the fast travel, the only way of bring it back -which is using console command-
would be useless. (Due to the fact that I can't specify refID. I've already experienced it and lost two of my daedric artifacts with the thrall.)

So who do you guys recommend?

There is a pair of Named NPC warriors in the Alftand Cathedral if you are up to some dungeon delving.
Umana and Sulla Trebatius.

They seem unrelated to any quests.

Get a dual-wielding forsworn briarheart. I dunno if any are named, but they seem to be the strongest melee fighters out there.

I wouldent give them anything useful as they tend to get lost when traveling. Briarhearts are good for dead thrall because they are not unqie so you can always find more and they are strong. I went out in search for strong dead thralls gave them powerful staffs and weapons and then after a few hours I noticed they where not with me any longer and I lost all of that equipment so be careful.

Briarhearts make great Warrior thralls.

I wouldn't give your thralls unique stuff for the very reason you mentioned. Instead, drop a few points into Smithing and Enchanting, and give them powerful crafted gear. If you lose the thrall, you can always craft more for your next one.

I've already maxed them out. But still, thanks for the reply.

He's quest related, but one of the most powerful named warrior NPCs I can recall is Krev the Skinner. He gave me my first legitimate death in Skyrim. ("Legitimate" meaning not me saving and then screwing around fighting Giants or seeing what a trap does...like actually dieing as part of a quest.)

He did this devastating hurricane spin move with his war hammer and one shotted me. (Light armor wearing skirmisher character...not a pushover in melee.)

Can he be respawned? I've already chewed him -literally. I was in my wolf form.- like ages ago....

I'm sure there's a way to do it via console. Exactly how I don't know offhand, probably some combination of resurrect, activate and placeatpc. UESP is having one of its fits right now or I'd try looking it up.

Since I am looking for very strong candidate, Skinner would not be very good choice if I revive him because I have dealt with him
at quite low level. I am going to find out whether he respawns or not by myself. If he does his level probably scales with mine.

Anyway, thanks for the tips.

If you click on him in the console and type "disable" then, without clicking away, type "enable," the NPC will be brought up to match your level. It's how I keep followers useful. (When I actually need to use them.)

I can only imagine that followers not leveling with your is a bug. That would have just been a terrible gameplay decision otherwise...

Yep, gotta love those Briarhearts. It's unfortunate that they 'wander off', though.

I've heard that Savos Aren (the archmage of the mage college) makes an excellent thrall, as he likes to summon his own beasties, thus adding to crowd control even more.

When I found out that Savos was killed by that thalmor bastard, I could never find his corpse. Well, I'm gonna try him out this time since I'm loading like 3hrs earlier save.....

I liked the Briarhearts as well for a melee type.
Are you guys able to use the thralls for long periods of time? I would always end up losing mine. I guess they would wander off and and get killed or fall to their deaths at some point.
I was just wondering because I always see topics about the best thralls and people respond as if they will have them forever. They are "permanent" but I've always considered my thralls to be sort of disposable.

You heard about it from me because i was one of the first people to take the time to test the guy out :P
In short the man isn't just an animal he is a straight up monster.
100 destro, 100 alteration, 100 conjuration 75 resto last I checked his stats. The man throws spells like a champ. Its kinda frightening really. :X

How did you do that? I just found out that Archmage's corpse is not meant to be interactive or searchable. Did you use console command?

I've had one thrall for what seemed like ages, then the next wouldn't even come out of the dungeon I 'raised' him from. Y.M.M.V., I guess. *shrugs*

My friend came up with this idea: Dead Thrall an Arc Necromancer, find another Arc Necromancer let the first one rise it, repeat process until you have an army or the game crashes.

Edit: Hasn't tried it yet.

My thralls ALWAYS get lost if I fast travel from the main world to a "city" sub world.
If I drop at a stable outside the city, they tend to come running up from a nearby door.

I can't get a Forsworn Briarheart to take Dead Thrall. Says they're too powerful, yet my conjuration is 100. Is there something I'm missing? thanks

Since this topic is about good Dead Thrall candidates, I was wondering if anyone knew how long a corpse that has been reanimated with Dead Thrall stays around after they've been.. unThralled? Is there a way of making them stick around permanently, so I can stockpile some good companions in my basemant without ever having to worry about losing them?

I sort of wish there was an Arena in Skyrim so you could animate the previous Grand Champion to fight for you...
