There is no house available for purchase in Winterhold. Think the OP means Whiterun. The owned bed is for your follower (if you have one).

Ah, then in that case it's for Lydia. I just dont know how you could have unlocked that house without having Lydia.

Has to be Whiterun. If you acquired enough coin to purchase the house before completing a certain part of the main quest (not sure if this is possible, it's been a while, don't want to spoil anything) then start doing the main quest line and it will make sense.

Is it the little bed off to the left when you go up the stairs?

LOL the guy above me beat me to it. Didn't want to mention any names

I did have a funny moment when I first bought that house. I walked in it a few hours after I had purchased all the furniture and what not and there was just some random dude in my house. He said something that I didn't catch and left before I could hit him/talk to him/anything. I was like WHO'S IN MY HOUSE! I immediately went out the door but he was gone. I have never seen him again. Was he perhaps delivering the furniture?

Has anyone else had this happen?

Sometimes NPCs follow you into your house. It's a bug.

When you're talking to an NPC, or an NPC is talking to you, when you enter the house, they enter with you. When the conversation ends, they leave. Weird bug.

This happens in Whiterun, don't know if it happens in other cities.

You can use this tactic to lure Nazeem or that "I work at Belethor..." guy inside your home and then plead legitimate defense after you've killed them. Plus you get to keep their carcass as a souvenir on a chair next to the fireplace.

Breezehome gets a lot of visitors because the door opens right on to the street. I'd like to turn the house around 180 degrees, lol.

Just Zed, in the basemant. You have found the basemant, I trust?

Zed's dead, baby.

Minor spoiler about housecarls and their furniture:
Spoiler
It's odd that housecarls have beds, since they never sleep. However, they are permitted to sleep, according to their base data. It's the sandbox program that keeps them awake all the time. Also, Lydia's bed is the wrong model for its location. This bed can only be entered from the other side (that is, the side that's under the rafters).

If Lydia has her own bed, why can't I get her to leave my pc's bedroom? She refuses to move from the table by the door. I'd shut the door and lock it, if I could get her to leave. Everytime I return to Breezehome, she's sitting in a chair, staring at my pc's bed as if she really misses him.

I'll have to actually take her along someday, to get her to leave my pc's bedroom, as I'm sure she could use some sunshine.

If Lydia dies, does that bed become available or it's still 'owned'?

Someone sold you a house in Winterhold?

I have a bridge in Brooklyn I could get you a great deal on :)

Maybe you mean your room in the College of Winterhold. There are many beds there, you might be looking at the wrong one.

This property is inhabited by lifetime insomniacs. Also applies to your marriage partner, no matter when I return home they are not sleeping.

THAT was my first thought, as well...

OH Whiterun! Hey now, that house isn't a shack, it's a quaint little place! Ugh, don't bring up Lydia please... I usually move as soon as I have the means to buy a new house... LOL

Well when I got Breezehome I had Lydia following me and had never sent her home. So it didn't really click for me that the bed was for her... might be the same with this guy.
