Who is the Nicest Character?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 7:03 pm

I'm tired of all of these scumbag threads. So, out of all of the characters in the game, who did you find to be the nicest? I put this in the spoiler forum because, well, some of the characters mentioned could be mentioned for quest related things. I think nice characters are much more memorable than their argumentative counterparts. I still remember Dar-Ma from Oblivion, who adored my character and was as cheerful an Argonian as I've ever seen. Then there was Ahnassi from Morrowind, although come to think of it, both of those characters fell in love with you if you were playing a male character. So I guess that explains the niceties.

I thought the Greybeards might get the most mentions, but I think their tantrum if you support the blades - even if you don't kill their leader - disqualifies them. And ol' Parthurnax, well, I don't think he's really nice to you. He just treats you with respect, as an equal, but he's not exactly baking you pies and telling you what a great dragonborn you are. Oddly enough, I think I might go with Sheogorath. He even went against his mad-god nature by helping you significantly decrease the suffering of an insane emperor. I guess being the implied Champion of Cyrodiil has made him less blind to the suffering of his subjects.

Ralof and Hadvar. They risk their lives to help a complete stranger. Especially Hadvar, I mean Ralof is an escaped prisoner himself at that point and has very good reason to run away, but Hadvar goes against all his orders to help a possible criminal and/or undercover rebel and leave the rest of the legion behind in Helgen. I'm sure his superiors aren't too happy with him once he gets back with the legion.

Ri'saad & Kharjo
Skuli - the only nice child, except maybe the kids that will play tag.
Marise Aravel
Aslfur
Revyn Sadri
Ulundil - yeah, I know he's the token constantly optimistic Bosmer. (even though technically he's an Altmer) :P

I miss the awesome facial expressions from Oblivion that some characters would get when you talk to them, everybody's face in Skyrim seems to be the same no matter what they talk about. No emotion at all.

Angi: she increases you archery skill by 6 points and also gives a decent bow to the player after a bit of conversation and an (easy) minigame.

He freaks me out with his excessive niceness. Maybe he's a Thalmor spy?!

Esbern isn't bad, even though he doesn't cooperate with you when you choose P'nax' side. But hey, he's a quiet old man who likes his peace, so it'd be too much effort for him to go against the hyperactive and bossy Delphine (he'd be slaughtered). Besides, he does explain his side of the bargain quite understandably, although I still don't agree with it. But we don't have to agree just to be pals. And I suspect he's doing his best to mellow out Delpine towards me, as I'm still able to at least sleep and take the loose items from Sky Haven Temple. I also gotta admit, his voice is nice and soothing. ^^

Gilfre from Mixwater Mill is also good to my character. Well, not like you can really get much from her, but it's pleasant to go see her every time I pass by.

On that same note, Erik The Slayer always greets me very excitedly whenever I see him at Sky haven Temple. Makes my return there very enjoyable, before Delphine ruins it again.

Tolfdir also seems to be genuinely nice, helping you wherever he can and explaining your archmage duties just because he can and wants to. In contrast, the Greybeards seem to be likable fellows too, but I always get this slight feeling they're doing it because they can gain from it.

Oh, and I love the Khajiit caravan trader who frequents Whiterun, his smile is simply too adorable!

Erik the Slayer, I will concur on that, he is a sweetie.

Some of the older ladies are very sweet - Fralia Grey-Mane, Angeline Morrard (alchemist in Solitude), etc. Granted you have to do stuff for them before they start talking about how proud your parents must be, but they seem like lovely people.

I agree about Tolfdir as well.

I love all the Khajiit caravaneers, every last one of them. It broke my heart when I did the DB storyline and got assigned a contract to kill one. I did it, but I hated it. Especially since I had just finished a TG quest that involved befriending and making a deal with his boss.

Oh, I totally forgot Erik! How could I? Please Erik, forgive me! He's definitely one of the nicest and sweetest characters in the game. He's cute, too ;) (but a little too young and na?ve for most of my characters to marry)

Nope, didn't kill him. Since the contract didn't come from the Night Mother, I didn't feel obligated to carry out the execution order. I'd have killed Nazir (whose character I dig immensely), before I killed Ma'randru-jo.

As for the nicest? Hmmm... Will probably have to go with Kharjo. Respect, trust, loyalty, and un-nervingly attractive! :D

Wonder if anyone would include "Ulfric" or "Tullius" in their answer? :D That would instantly convert this thread to a scumbag thread.

Anyway i can't really remember having not played skyrim for 5 months. Unwillingly i might add.

Ulfric is one of my favorite characters, for many reasons. Still, "nice" isn't the first word that springs to minds regarding him.

If there's one thing I don't miss from Oblivion...it's the doughy potato faces. I'll take Skyrim's facial expressions (and faces in general) over Oblivion's any day. Likewise for the "I'm going to stand perfectly still and zoom in on your face" conversation method.

On that same note, Erik The Slayer always greets me very excitedly whenever I see him at Sky haven Temple. Makes my return there very enjoyable, before Delphine ruins it again.

Erik is honestly so adorable and excitable, sometimes I think he's at risk of putting me into some kind of diabetic/sugar coma. Total sweetheart.

A lot of the Khajiit traders really are quite nice. The merchant who travels with Kharjo's group in particular. Every time I stop to sell her stuff she always comments about how so few people in Skyrim are willing to do trade with the Khajiit, so she's happy I'm not one of those people.

I'll also second the nominations for Ralof, and probably the rest of his family as well. If you follow Ralof out of Helgen, they'll take you in and let you crash at their house and eat all their food, no questions asked. Pretty generous if you ask me. The smith in Riverwood, Alvor(?), is pretty nice about teaching you smithing as well.

Also, Erandur's got to be one of the nicest NPCs in the game. At least to my character.

One of the things I hate most about Delphine is how she speaks to Esbern. I'd actually like to hear everything he has to say about the history and architecture of Sky Haven Temple, but she stops him with some very contemptuous and rude dialogue. She doesn't treat him with any respect at all, and he's much more useful and important to the MQ than she is.

I just remembered there is a permanently affable genuine Bosmer in Ivaarstead. I still like Ulundil, and wouldn't like to find out he was a Thalmor spy. If he was though, then the actual assassin/spy sent by the Thalmor that shows up nearby wouldn't have been needed.

My favorite person since I have been playing an Orc is Ogol. I have taken him as a follower, and I love the things he says. Especially when he says "You look grim". Of course I look grim! I'm an ORC! LOL Cracks me up every time!

Torygg mostly because he can't become scumbag now since he's dead, just a safe bet and whole Makarth with those nice city guards and powerful families who want nothing more than to toss you into the dungeon.

For me, one of the nicest has got to be Anska, I spent that entire question expecting to be betrayed and she didnt, not only that but she was useful in a fight and kept her word on the treasure, even gave me a bonus. So for me she was one of my favorites.
