Who is your favorite video game developer(s)?

Post » Thu Sep 15, 2011 8:39 pm

I saw a thread like this was started back in March, but it eventually died.

Personally, my favorite developers are Rare (corrupted by MS), Pandemic (defunct), and BGS.

Capcom and Atlus. Shame Capcom has been terrible lately, though.

EA Bioware. :hubbahubba: kidding, kidding.

Seriously though, BGS. But that's not really a surprise.

currently it is eidos montreal. i was really impressed with how they went out of their way to listen to the long time and very vocal fans of deus ex when making the new game deus ex HR. while they did make some questionable decisions, overall the game far exceeded my expectations and is about as close as you can get to deus ex.

i especially liked how they went out of their way to qualm the fears of PC gamers by making many things optional including FOV which i never expected to be put in. they even made better AI for the PC version instead of giving us the usual nerfed super slow reacting console AI so prevalent these days.

if skyrim does indeed look alot better on PC as Todd said it would at quakecon and if the game is difficult and not easy and catering to casuals then perhaps bethesda will move back to number one. they have their work cut out for them though. a close second isnt a bad place to be though. :)

Bethesda, obviously.

Although BioWare is also a good company, their PR is horrible.

Frictional Games. For creating the most frightening piece of entertainment since the Exorcist.

I hope that's sarcasm...

Bethesda is number one, but that's quite obvious by where we are. It's hard to pick a 2nd place, as a lot of companies are pretty decent. I'd say Valve, then probably Creative Assembly, Taleworlds, DICE, and then GSC game world.

EDIT: Can't believe I forgot Westwood, they'd be 2nd if they still existed... And Pre Blizzard-Activision Blizzard would score quite high on that list, but I can't bear to mention them and still feel complete inside. I hate you Kotick, you ruin everything nice about video games.

Rare, Pandemic, and 3DO were all great in their heyday. Black Isle, Headfirst productions, and Gearbox studios deserve honorable mentions.

SoE might be in line for redemption if they manage to not kill Planetside 2.

Black Isle Studios and Troika Games -- sadly, neither exists anymore.
There is Obsidian Entertainment, Piranha Bytes and CD Project RED for the existing ones (Eidos Montreal could be one, but I'll need to see what they do now, after DX:HR).

It used to be Beth, but I'm getting more and more disappointed with them as time goes by. Same with Bioware. But I do like Rocksteady. They're pretty new, but I like Arkham Asylum and I'm going to like Arkham City.

Bethesda. They are yet to make a game I have not enjoyed immensely.

Rockstar. GTA is one of the most fun game series ever, 4 was actually amazing and their new games are just as good.

Valve. They make a slew of interesting games, despite some flaws Steam is a very good medium and Portal and TF2 are great series, as is Half Life.

Valve - Every single game they've developed has been above average and they are very active in the modding community. :goodjob:

Infinity Ward (2002 - 2010) - Say what you want about the Call of Duty series, games 1 and 2 were REALLY good.

Westwood Studios - Nox, C&C

Runic Games (http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/06/09/e3-2011-torchlight-pirated-over-5-million-times-in-china-runic-ceo-thats-fine-with-us/)

Ubisoft Montreal - Assassins Creed, Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, Far Cry 2

Bethesda Game Studios - Morrowind was really good

DICE (Before EA)

Troika Games and CD Projekt. Unfortunately Troika isn't around any more, I would've loved to see them do a sequel to Bloodlines.

A shame about Troika. Another Bloodlines and Arcanum would have been great. It would have been awesome if they had the rights to Fallout. Imagine the possibilities.

BGS is the obligatory answer, Rockstar have never disappointed me, Ubisoft Montreal (they shouldn't have dropped the rainbow six franchise though), id Software, Bungie, GSC and valve.

Frictional games gets an honorable mention because while their games were interesting and good while they lasted they have little replay value for me.
