Whole system hangs every 30 seconds to few minutes

Ok, this game is very unstable. I'm getting complete system freeze (can't alt-tab, can't access task manager, can't nothing, got to reboot) very very frequently. Actually this occured on the first quest (geckos). Twice while punching them, twice while randomly looking at Cheyenne.

In windowed mode, my whole screen just went black and my system froze too.

I'm on a i7 system with an ATI 5970, so those Nvidia fixes do not really apply. And why should we try to hack our way to a working game anyway?

I had the exact same issue with the 30-60 freezes but it always recovered if I simply left it alone. (Don't touch the keyboard at all.)

I had to reinstall Windows after a failed OC corrupted the install. Ever since, I no longer get it. I have no clue what did it, but I'm glad it's gone!

If it's really bugging you as it did me, it's something to consider.

I'll try the "raise hands in the air and hold your breath until it resumes or you go blue trick".
As for the "reset everything trick", I'll wait until I really need to.

If anyone has another trick, I can use them.

I get freezes like that to with three different games. The funny thing is it happen around the same time. Give and take two minutes.
By using Event Viewer, I track it down what's the problem is. I have a Internet browser Google. Around 10:00 in the morning each day it updates which it freezes the game for ten seconds then lets goes and freezes again about three times.
Have you got anything working in the background?

Actually, I tried with fresh reboots most of the time (since I was forced to). Unfortunately for me, Fallout New Vegas is the only little bum doing the hangs, for instance Fallout 3 runs very smoothly.

Aside from hardware monitoring softs, I had one app running in the background and that is Avast, I agree it would be wise turning that one off and everything else I can next time.

I did a complete wipe of ATI drivers with a reinstall and no improvement. The bUseThreadedAI trick is done, stable longer but still hangs.

BTW Hands in the air trick didn't work, thanks anyway Wolfpup :thumbsup: . The computer doesn't respond even after 2 minutes, so the system is totally frozen.
