You gain the biggest benefit from selecting the Necromage perk in the Restoration tree. You're quite undead as a vampire, so anything that effects you is 25% better and lasts 50% longer. Shouts, racial powers, enchants on gear and so on.
Look up threads on the Necromage perk, and you will learn how do be the ultimate killing machine as a vampire. Trust me being a vampire is very fun, and adds to your immersion because you have to be careful that you do not get into a fight during the day, and you have to remember the last time you fed.
I started one but I have no clue where to become one. NAy ideas?
I've found the easiest place to catch the disease to be http://www.uesp.net/maps/srmap/srmap.shtml?centeron=Mara%27s+Eye+Den. You can easily reach that at the start of the game.
My char just got out of Helgen. Where is the closest and quickest way to become a vampire
Haemar's Shame is cave near Helgen on a path in the mountains if you are heading to Riften, you could go there. I would recommend BrokenFang Cave Southwest of Whiterun that is where I went.
How many hits does it take to become a vampire? I'm here in Haemar's Shame hoping to contract the disease. I'm literally standing here, healing my characters with restoration and letting a vampire thrall wail on me.
It always seems like this, if you don't want your character to catch a disease. If you do you won't.

You cannot contract vampirism from a vampire thrall.

I had to reload the game many times when I was trying to become a vampire with my Bosmer (who of course have disease resistance ><), but it finally happened. (This was in Broken Fang Cave which has a vampire right at the beginning so it isn't a pain to reload from the beginning of the cave.)
I made a Vampire. i haven't played him in awhile though. Jakben Imble the 3rd. Live in a desolate place like an old fort. and just feed on people. it's pretty fun.
I have two vampire characters, a female and a male. The female is level 71, the male is 23, I believe. I will try to level up my male, play with him for awhile now, haha.

The only way to contract Vampirism is by having a Vampire use its Life Drain power on you.
Personally, I'd save your game at a spot right before you confront a Vampire because there is only a 10% chance (each time the Vampire uses this power, the game rechecks to see if you contract it) that you'll contract it.
When I made my first Vampire, it took me reloading five times before the game told me that I had contracted the disease.

I tried that one, but I keep getting killed by the two vampires.
