Why 111111?

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 9:32 am

What? The devs decide the release of the game? Or would that be Zenimax?

Good question. From what i've read on these forums Zenimax Media is a private company (not listed in the stock exchange) owned (mostly) by the people who work for Bethesda. Internet hearsay disclaimer applies :hehe:

Nevertheless, it would be sensible to use ones brush to tar the correct target :P

*Pulls out Aluminum Hat*
They are part of the illuminati Skyrim is TES V... what do you get when you subtract 11-5? Yes 6.. so what does that mean for this date..?
:ahhh:
(in all seriousness I think there are nut-jobs out there who actually follow such a line of reasoning)

The only game I've played that's done a better job with post release support is gran turismo 5. It's been almost 3 years and they are still improving it.
That's nothing compared to Team Fortress 2. The game was released in 2007 and it's still being updated...

People are really hung up on this date. Everything has a deadline. You try to squeeze in everything you can before the deadline comes. Had the marketing department stayed out of it and the game released on 12/03/11, no one would have this rallying cry. The game was in development for what, 5 years? A couple more weeks here or there would not have made this magical difference people think it would've.

Well said.

TF2 is amazing. It's the most polished game ever, I think.

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but a gimmick is worth a million bucks.

Because the Elder Scrolls IV: O B L I V I O N had the 'IV' smack in the centre of the title. Skyrim also needed something catchy and there was no V in sight. :P

I wouldn't call a release date a "gimmick". They had to release it at some point, and if a particular date helps to build interest/anticipation... then why not?

It's like I said before... marketing isn't the antithesis to good game design. The two are part of the same thing.

Marketing.

Yeah. Having spent five years designing and producing the game, shame on Bethesda for actually wanting to sell it as well.

Marketing is apart of financial success, not game design.

Granted the two are symbiotic, but I would say Bethesda is apart of the upper echelon of devs.

I didn't say marketing was a part of game design. I said marketing and game design are both part of the same process of producing a game. As you say, the two are symbiotic.

I've always been wondering as to why Bethesda released this game at 11/11/11? I can't help but feel if they spent a few more months on this game for 360, PC and the Ps3, it would've been a lot better.
I think extra time wouldn't make the difference. Best way to make it well at the start is to set your focus right. TES has always been PC-game series so I think they should just make it well on PC to release it 11/11/11 and then with some time to convert it for consoles - just like they did with Morrowind.

It's quite hilarious reading all these "rushed" and "too buggy" comments.

Remember Oblivion, Morrowind, Daggerfall, Fallout, games that had no pre-determined release dates? They too were buggy, they too had quite a bit of cut content inside of them, they too had features that never seen the release date.

But what do I know, the more they work on it, the better it gets right, I mean Duke Nukem Forever is known as the best game of all time...
