Why is almost every time a dragon the final encounter in the

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 2:15 am

There are so many mythical creatures and you can also create a new type of monster but in almost every recent fantasy action RPG the final boss of the story line is a dragon.

Examples (with possible spoiler):
Spoiler

Dragon Age Origins -> a dragon demon
Witcher 2-> without the epilogue the last fight is against a female dragon
Kingdoms of Amalur -> a large imprisoned dragon
Daggerdale-> a large dragon
WoW as Mmorpg with the current Cataclysm addon -> Deathwing

On the other side there are only a few newer fantasy games like Dragon Age 2 without such a creature in the final fight.

So why is it almost every time the same. Are dragons popular or is it a bit a lack of creativity of the developers?

Dragons are probably the most popular fantasy creature in the world. Its not suprising; I'm suprised this is the fifth elder scrolls, and the first with dragons.

Because nobody makes games featuring a Bloodthirster.

Because in western culture dragons sort of represented natural disasters. I guess it's the sign of current times, with all the natural disasters going around the world.

This is not the first TES game with dragons.

At least the titles listed have a sense of accomplishment when defeating the dragon..

Skyrim's main focus was Dragons to begin with ties into Nords and Skyrim so having a dragon to kill at the end isn't so much surprising. Do I think its laziness of developers to have dragons? No certainly is not that depends on other variables.... I would just say its bad timing the titles such as Witcher 2 and WoW doesn't really count because as said Witcher's 2 last fight wasn't against a dragon and/or you had the choice after battle. And WoW been around for years a new expansion pack doesn't mean a new title.

The dragon prophecy was part of TES lore for a decade now.

Dragon Age shouldn't be called Dragon Age. Technically it only had one dragon in it. I did NOT satisfy my need for Dragons.

Dragons are popular. Newly-invented mythical creatures and new types of monsters often wind up as cliche as older ones -- "Oh, look, it's a monster! Didn't see that coming." It's not the monster that counts; it's how you use it.

Okay, the full sized ones, then!

Flemeth shapeshifted into a dragon and the Archdemon was dragon in form but was actually Darkspawn (Or was it one of those dead gods or whatever? I can't remember the plot very well). So, that leaves the one you fight up at that place in the mountains. I forget what it's called.

Anyway! Leave me alone, I'm tired!

It had 2. Morrigans mother is a dragon. Why did she live so long? Because she ate her daughters. The other when you do the quest 'The Urn of Sacred Ashes' at the later part quest. That dragon is a high dragon of some sort.
