Why is Archery leveling SO slow?

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 7:15 am

So I'm a warrior type character, and all the warrior skills are at 100, save archery. It's 91. I've cleared three dungeons using nothing but the bow and it hasnt even barely budged at all with the warrior stone. What's the deal?

I think it is based on damage delt with the bow, so make sure you have a top of the line bow, like glass, improved as much as possible, then use the best arrows again like glass. I am not sure if applying poisons would help or not.

Sorry, my bad. The CK totally lied to me. And it was totally a typo that Archery (Which is Marksman in the CK) was under the Thief stone.

Archery is warrior.
It's a warrior skill, but it's governed by the Thief Stone.

As Echonite said, use thief stone. no sneak shots. Use unsmithed Daedric Bow with Falmer arrows. Take off fortify archery enchantments. Get close to your enemy and make many fast and weak shots by not fully drawing your bow. Get married and sleep.

I'm pretty sure Archery experience is earned based on damage you deal with a bow and not number of shots fired.

I'm pretty sure Archery experience is earned based on damage you deal with a bow and not number of shots fired.

In general, you deal more damage when you fire more arrows and use better class of bows. So you are not wrong when you say doing more damage gives you more experience.

In my testing, there are only two things that affect experience gain, base damage of the bow and number of effective shots fired. Enchantments, potions and smithing improve damage, but do not contribute to experience gain. You don't have to believe me. You can test it yourself.

At least it isn't as bad as Oblivion, I remember putting 100 arrows in an enemy at max difficulty and only gaining one level in marksman.

I think combat based skills should level slow, cause you use them throughout the game and not in certain situations.
