Why are my ALIAS' not filling?!

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 12:48 pm

Ok, so I realized most of my issues are coming from the fact that my quest aliases are not filling...

Here is the quest setup: http://i.imgur.com/0LS2E.png

Here is an alias setup (all are like this): http://i.imgur.com/UjBRz.png

Here is the outcome: http://i.imgur.com/3FzUj.png

Any help is appreciated...

Hmmm. Could it perhaps be because the quest is at stage 0?

Create blank stage 10, and then manually set it to 10 in game and see if they fill. Also, how the hell are you seeing that data that you posted for the outcome? That would be so useful...

EDIT: Another thought. Create a player alias just for the sake of testing, and set it to "specific reference" PlayerRef. See if it fills. If it does, the issue is possibly because your references don't actually exist. That is to say, they aren't in the game world yet. (Hell, you could try placing one of them inside the world to test it if you prefer.)

Thank you for the fast reply. I will try the blank stage 5 since I already have a 10 and try it and also will do the playerRef thing.

As for the outcome, use this command in console:

sqv QuestHere

I will edit with an update soon.

I should also mention that a previously loaded game (lvl 50 argonian) has all of the references filled.

EDIT UPDATE - Adding the PlayerRef and Blank Stage 5 did not affect the reference fills. They are all still NONE.

Thanks for that, should help me with debugging stuff later.

Does your level 50 have the quest past stage 0? If so that's probably it.

No, my lvl 50 has yet to talk to the guy that gets the quest to stage 10. He can talk to the guy and get dialogue, while a lvl 1 cannot get dialogue due to the ALIAS not filling.

I think if one of your aliases fails to fill and is not marked as optional, it will skip filling all of them. You can test if this is the issue by temporarily setting all of your aliases to optional.

Now I have to figure out why some dialogue isn't kicking in on certain quests lol.

Well, it also might be worth trying to figure out why the reference was filling for your 50 but not your new character. That doesn't seem right if the quest is new to both of them. It may also be the cause of your dialogue issue. Have you tested the dialogue on the 50?

I tested the dialogue on both of my NPC's and both characters and they all work now. It was an Alias Fill issue on both quests as well as I figured out my Dialogue issue.

The same problem has been driving me absolutely nuts for the last few days. I signed up to the forums just to search for an answer. SQV and the advice about setting the aliases to optional to find out which one isn't filling is pure gold. Thanks!

PS Although it does make me wonder WHY it's not filling. The problem alias is a unique actor fill type pointing at one of the game's pre-made unique characters (Wilmuth, FWIW). Why wouldn't Wilmuth be around when the quest starts?
