Why are dragons always attacking Dawnstar?

Post » Sat Jun 23, 2012 12:29 am

everytime i fast travel to dawnstar theres always 1 or 2 dragons flying around attacking that poor village, so far dawnstar lost 3 guards and 1 miner.
how much more is there left untill this poor place gets deeply decreased in population?
does this happen to u aswell?

I think it might be caused by you fast traveling.

Fast travelling increases the rate at which you encounter dragons. There's nothing about Dawnstar specifically; for another person that town always getting attacked might be Riverwood, for example.

Look at the place, the Dragons are trying to do us a favor, by leveling the dump. Even the people in Dawnstar hate Dawnstar.

They don't go there intending to attack it, it's just that they were in the area and really needed some alchemy potions and reagents and it's the middle of the day but the store is closed. Again. Like it is EVERY DAMN TIME you try to shop there. There's only so many times that can happen before you just... snap.

The College is the only place I don't mind getting the instant dragon spawn via Fast Travel. It's cool to have all of those mages in the courtyard suddenly just start blasting him with spells. :)

I wonder what they had against Riften and Falkreath in my previous game, then. :P Maven Black-Briar in Riften, obviously, but in Falkreath?

So true. Though sometimes you can get lucky and the Khajit caravan that has Kharjo will be nearby and they will help out too.

mhm yes it is quite common in the little towns
morthal, falksreath riverwood, irvasted, shors stone, kynesgrove, dawnstar and winterhold all have a higher rate of dragon attacks because they arent closed.
now if you go to a closed town like markarth, solitude, whiterun, windhelm or riften the probability of it to happen is deeply descreased.
i just dont get it why dawnstar soo much for me? i bet that place is glitched..
i was in markarth before and the forsworn killer tried to kill margareth i killed him before he did it and then i fast travelled to dawnstar and a dragon killed a guard, then another guard from dawnstar came up to me and asked if i knew anything about this attack ( he was referring to the failed assassination in markarth instead"
it wasnt easy to get away from him because he kept asking the same thing over and over again, i seriously hate markarth but i think dawnstar for me is severely glitched.

Yes for me Riverwood and Dawnstar seems to be attractive targets for me as well.. Solitude once or twice and only Whiterun once..

And since i play without magical items on all my characters (stealth bonus rings i can live with though for example). It takes some time to kill that son of a dragon.. The dragon wiped out half Riverwood before me and the guards took it down :) (Was good times however i had to reload :( )

never had one in whiterun
as for my whole gaming experience in skyrim i had
3 in riverwood
2 in falksreath
2 in solitude
8 in dawnstar
6 in winterhold
and 1 in windhelm
this is counting every single playthrough i had
7 out of those in dawnstar have appeared to me in this playthrough i am now all alone.

Riften? They just want to visit Brand-shei to pick up some genuine imported goods from Morrowind. But they can't get through the marketplace without some local conman following them around and accusing them of being on the make. This is unacceptable. Dragons do not acquire their gold through thievery and other disreputable methods. They acquire gold by eating people who have gold in their pockets. To imply otherwise is to impugn the very honor of the Dragon race.

As for Falkreath... well... they can't even get in the city without having "A Daedra's Best Friend" permanently stuck in their journals. Enough said. :P

*raises hand

I disagree with the FT reasoning. I rarely do this in a game, and I can attest dragons seem to appear more at villages than cities. Dawnstar, Riverwood, and Falkreath always seem to have one appear. Cities will generally get one after Alduin visits the mound around them, but the respawn rate for cities seems to be a longer period of time.

My reasoning is because the towns allow dragons to land on the buildings and there are fewer NPCs to worry should they provide yet another inheritance letter to us.

By my count:
Dawnstar: 7 dragons
Riverwood: 3 dragons
Falkreath (on the way to DB): 3 dragons

And I know it's not a timing issue because I've literally battled a dragon in Riverwood, on my way to Falkreath, and had to do it again.

Not that I care. They're absolutely stupid to be messing with me. I've 300+ daedric arrows. It's like a quiver full of near-instant kills. :D

I always encounter Dragons outside of Dawnstar. You're not alone. No one's ever died on me though. I kill my beasties quick.
