Why boone hate his berret so much? : Fallout: New Vegas

I mean he gives it away to you easily to put on your possibly lice-ridden head, and then he will basically wear anything on his head that is not his berret. I think he'd put a used condem on his head if you could slip it inot his inventory.

NPCs are not as clever as we are. They always prefer the gear with the highest DT even if the other stats are too good to pass. Similarly they always prefer the guns with the highest DPS regardless of any other stats.

Yeah, NPCs will equip whetever has the highest DT in their inventory, regardless of their actual use.
If you take his beret out, he'll tell you he'd really like his beret back.

I find it funny that Boone loves his hat and gets
mad when I take it, and then my other companion is Rex, who hates people who wear hats.

I took his Beret once on accident and he asked for it back. While dumping loot off on him to carry he started wearing a Fiend helmet.
