Why can't we forge Arrows?

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 7:56 pm

So I made an Archery/Stealth character a few days ago and everything was going fine and dandy, That is until I started running low on arrows...

I've always been one to level up my Smithing and having almost 100 Smithing I figured it was time to make myself a nice bow with some arrows to boot, So I made my lovely new Daedric Bow and start wondering what enchantments I might put on it when I notice something... No arrow forging option for Daedric or for that matter ANY type of Weapon/Armour materiel.

So let me get this straight... I can harvest the bones and scales of a dragon and turn it into armour but I can't make some simple arrows?

Whats up with that? PLEASE tell me Bethesda plans to fix this...

By rights you should be able to, really. Maybe at the Fletcher in Solitude?

Where did you get that from? Can't forge arrows on PC either, but I believe there's a mod for it.

Yes you can forge arrmows.

Find an archer practicing. Pickpock his default arrows and add the arrows you want to make. BAM! forged arrows. :)

Too many arrow-knee related injuries involved in the fletching process.

Also, remember when they said that arrows would be relatively limited in quantity and you wouldn't be carrying around hundreds anymore? I lol'd.

Yup, it svcks.

People would argue it's because it would make the player too powerful or blah this blah that. No matter how you look at it, you can make every other type of weapon in the game (except staves). So if you can make bows why would we not be able to make arrows?

Damn! Beat me to the arrow-in-knee joke.

But seriously, I had an inventory of over 1500 iron arrows and just sold them for a cool 1.5K. Of course, I can count the amount of arrows I shot in one hand for the over 40 hours I've played. :-)

Wouldn't be carrying hundreds? Tell that to my stockpile of Steel, Ancient Nord, and Iron Arrows. Building up quite the pile of Dwarven, Orcish, and Elven as well.

TBH This whole arrow-in-knee thing is getting out of hand...unrelated youtube videos have that joke as their top rated comment.

And I don't know how they thought you would be short on arrows, clear out a draugr cave and you get a hundred right there.

True

I think the option should be in by default.

There is no arrow crafting because Beth wanted to make arrows more rare due to how powerful archery now is.

I would guess it's because they didn't program that sort of thing into the game when they made it.

Arrows might be nice to make. I don't seem to run out of them with my characters, but I don't use a bow that much. However, instead of making the things, just give us the ability to buy more of them when we do find them at a shop.

I would think it would be a worthwhile Perk to the Archery Skill to be able to Fletch arrows, or possibly upgrade or modify existing arrows.

The arrows become more available than they were in oblivion. You can buy Ebony in whiterun at a certain level and the merchant has a bunch. The one ones I can't get a ton of are daedric.

Smithing arrows would be cool, though I would rather be able to enchant them. Poison will have to do I suppose.

I use my bow almost exclusively, and other than at the very beginning I have never bought a single arrow, what I find on my victims suits me fine.

There are lots of things you can't forge for unknown reasons.

For example, you can't make Fur Armor for some reason.

Seems like just bad decisions/lack of attention to detail.

while making arrows would be nice, and i like the idea of a perk in the archery tree to allow it, they did say it was because of balance.

but arrows are everywhere. completed the first 3 missions for the stormcloaks and i have over 600 steel arrows. the legion likes their steel arrows. i'm not positive, but availability of new (higher quality) arrows seem to be linked to overall level, archery level, or related smithing perks. they are all pretty close on my archer playthrough so i can't be certain. on a recently finished playthrough, the only arrows that seemed somewhat scarce were daedric and ebony. didn't see any daedric for sale, and ebony were in extremely low quantity. but i wasn't using a bow and wasn't looking for them either.

*shrugs*

Vendors will sell up to Ebony quality arrows, that I know of for sure, once you hit mid 30s or so. If I started to get low, I'd just hit a town and buy however many the vendors had available - archery shops usually have a good quantity of the best available arrow for sale.
