Why can't I play as a Maormer? Or even see one?

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 3:17 pm

Hi! New here and uncertain of the etiquite, but figured this is the best place to ask. So here it goes.

Through the power of Google and assorted wiki's I found out about the Maormer aka Sea Elves/Tropical Elves. From what I understand, they aren't extinct. They are down near the Summerset Isles, and have snake magic to tame sea serpents. Now that all sounds awesome. From a gameplay perspective, the name implies they are like mermen, so they would be like Argonian elves (basically water breathing with high magika, maybe heals in water, I don't know) which to me sounds appealing to say the least. Is it simply because there has been no logical way to implement the race? Or is it because there is so little exposure that not many know about them and, in turn, causes them to be left by the wayside?

Since you're new, http://www.imperial-library.info/sites/default/files/dogate_til_fishystick.jpg

I think the Maormer have only ever been hostile to the people of Tamriel, so you wouldnt get a warm welcome.

Im guessing we dont know much about them because, like you said, they havent thought of a way to introduce them (either as an enemy or race)

I think it's just because they're relatively isolationist, & I can only think of one reference to them being in mainland Tamriel.
Granted, that one instance was in Solitude.
But no, other than the way they used to constantly raid the Summerset Isles they largely kept to themselves, even more so now, I'd wager as they were decimated in, I believe, the War of the Red Diamond.

Basically this. There aren't enough of them outside of their homeland.

The nine races that are playable only make up about 40% of the known races in TES.

Although, yeah. That all said, it would fly as hell to get to play a Maormer.
If I had my way all of the races that still had any presence in Tamriel at all would be playable.

Even Sload.

And especially Imga.

Thanks! Also, yeah, I do understand that is could be hard to implement, but my understanding was that they had some fued thing with the Altmer.

"It was originally believed that they had lived in the Altmer home of Summerset Isle and were exiled, but tapestries found in the Crystal Tower of Alinor reveal an enmity going back so far as to make that theory impossible." source: uesp.net

So enemy of my enemy?

I want to play as a Dragon! Except with the body of a man. Like a man dragon. And the head and limbs of a man too. That would be cool! But we would still have dragon blood. Yeah!
I don't see this ever happening.

Now, the SOUL of a dragon, maybe they could pull that off.

I'd love to see the Imga in there.

They'd make a good sneak/two-handed mix. Something which doesn't really exist already.

More importantly, they'd be just as arrogant as the worst Altmer, but with not even the slightest reason to be.

I do agree though, a race that could effectively mix claymores with sneak attacks would be cool.
The shaved ape, in a cape factor is just a plus.

I wouldn't say that. After all, they try to immitate the Altmer, seeing them as more important than themselves. They might see the other races as inferior, but only because they don't treat the other Altmer like gods. I'd love to play as an Altmer if the Imga were added, just to see how they'd respond. ^^

The one picture we have of them is hilarious.

I'm pretty sure it's the Bosmer they immitate, asI'm fairly sure they're native to Valenwood.

Better to leave them out of the game and only have them in lore imo.

They are native to Valenwood, but it's still the Altmer they immitate.

They are native to Valenwood actually, but it's the Altmer they obsessively imitate.

Edit:Just beaten out on that response.

The Maormer have long since been disliked by the Altmer, possibly for being considered impure.
They tend to be rather reclusive, as explained by their natural chameleon abilities. There haven't been any imperial attempts at going to Pyandonea, its a massive jungle.
Other than that, the Maormer have an extreme dislike for the Altmer, and have raided the Summerset Isles for a long time.
