Why We cant continue after we finish the story?

Post » Sun Jun 19, 2011 5:54 pm

So I was wondering why we cant continue to play the side quests after we finish the story because it would be so much better, or
are you guys going to Implement this option in a DLC? because fallout 3 was possible to continue the game
if you had Brotherhood of steel.

Here we go again.

We cannot continue because THE GAME HAS A DEFINITIVE ENDING.

If thats not a good enough reason, think about this:

The game has thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of different endings. How easy do you think it is to make them all converge into one point?

EDIT - PS: Welcome to the forums! :)

Because it would be impossible to recreate each location in the Mojave, and the Mojave itself, individually and entirely, for every ending slide, and interaction of ending slides, and to ensure that the player would not interfere with the credibility of the ending slide, keep you from contradicting it, and to ensure that the world well represents the ending slides that tell us the consequences of our choices.

Considering he throws gecko droppings at people who asked about a DLC release date, I'd rather not find out what he does to people who call a definitive ending a "bug".

As a dinosaur myself, I can understand what the OP is saying. In the classic games, you could pretty much sandbox it after the main quest and that was kind of cool. I can't think of any other game at the time that did something like that. Especially for a game like this, where it was kinda fun to just wander around and maybe tie up some loose ends.

OTOH, things changed a lot after FO2. The fact is, there will be no continuation of the game after the ending...period. And, it's not because the devs are a bunch of douches who are trying to mess with you. Actually, they're all pretty decent folks (based on my experiences on the old Interplay boards, where they used to interact with the community quite a bit...until the Van Buren situation). The reason there won't be game continuation after the ending is mostly a technical issue. And I'm fine with that. I would much rather they spend that time and effort fixing things that need fixing (like, for example the laser splitter mod) already in a really good game, than tweaking the game for new features. Continuation post-ending may seem like a minor fix to you, but it would be a big deal and a lot of work on the programming/design end. That's just the way it is.

Frankly, I'm just stoked that they brought Obsidian (as in, the true creators of FO) back on the project. I figured I was done with the series after FO3. Now, I'm looking forward to GOTY and FO4.

 Definitive, as in "fixed and final form." The endings of New Vegas are definitive in that they leave the wasteland in a way that the Courier is no longer allowed to change it.

Hi Kamaleao, welcome to the forums. The reason Obsidian made a definitive ending was because they thought a slide-show with mellow music was cooler than experiencing the consequences of your decision in real time.

"We realized the popularity of free-roam but people like the slide-shows". To answer your question, they used it as an excuse to be lazy. Cause you know, Free Roam is sooo closed minded.

I mean games always never end ! We want something new like a game coming to a close just like any other! Screw free roam !

Oh and I apologize for the rude welcome by the dinos.

No, it wouldn't be better, because Mojave would only be occupy by one faction.

Ugh, do act such on purpose? They COULDN'T show the consequences of our decisions in real time because, unlike Fallout 3, our actions actually had LONG TERM effects for each and every quest and location, unlike Fallout 3 which did either good or bad karma wide summation, and told us almost nothing, so they could pump out BS which was BS, and retcon away the already weak ending. NV doesn't have a weak ending, it has many endings, each strong and satisfying. They weren't being lazy, to think so is ignorance on your part.

By your logic. The game should be over when you complete honest hearts. Who is being ignorant? It's not going to ruin the game if you experience the results of your actions in real time.

Once again, it CANT be done. There are too many ending variations for each quest and location to take into consideration, if they want to show a credulous gameworld after ending.
