Why did you buy Skyrim?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 1:12 pm

Some of friends recently (4 of them) got Skyrim, but i told them if they were fans you know of Bethesda Games or of the Elder Scrolls series. .. .. .. they said no. They didn't even know what the hell the Elder Scrolls was. .. ..So i kept thinking to myself .. why would they buy it? Was it because of the Skyrim trailers or maybe game posters around a store something must have made them buy the game ..maybe sales? So that's where this question comes in.

Why did you buy Skyrim? I'm pretty sure most of you have played previous games from the series that is why you purchased Skyrim ..

but post anyways.

Yep, started with Morrowind and have been hooked on Bethesda games ever since, despite their buggy reputation.

Played TES since Morrowind.

I love the series, knew I was getting the game when the first trailer came out at the beginning of last year.

I have actually run into ppl that do not know anything about the Elder Scrolls. It's blasphemy to me! Seriously though, yeah it happens. I for one do not know why it happens! How could anyone NOT know about this series?
Yup I bought Skyrim because of the other ones they released and that I love.

Well, I didn't know about TES until somewhere around 6 months after Fallout 3 came out. That was my 1st Bethesda game. After I put in over 1000 hours into FO3, I decided to see what all the hoopla about Oblivion was about, and I played it until New Vegas was out. I played NV, & made a couple of well recieved mods and provided support for them as I eagerly awaited Skyrim's release.

To answer the OP, I love these games! I'm not aware of anything else out there that provides you with such a huge world to run around in, and also provides PC users the tools and ability to customize their games as we see fit. They're awesome! Plus, I've logged over 1000 hours in FO3, Oblivion and New Vegas EACH. It's the best entertainment value on the planet in terms of dollars per hour. I feel like I'm totally ripping Beth off. (But don't tell them that!)

Hooked since Morrowind for Xbox, then got it for PC and played it more than any other game I've owned, played and loved Oblivion but in its vanilla form was a bit of a let down. Skyrim.... what can I say about Skyrim other than I love it and I've played like 220hrs since November.

Keep em coming Bethesda.

I knew that even if Skyrim was considered to be crap by everyone else, I would still pour hundreds of hours of time into it. 228 hours so far, I'm going for 300 :)

Played Oblivion, loved it. The Guy at the game store asked what was next for me, we were buying my hubby yet another "shooter". He Told me about Skyrim and I pre-ordered it. Love Skyrim!

Having played Fallout 3 and Oblivion, i knew it would deliver a mess comprised of an amazing open world, something resembling a story, a poorly balanced and working gameplay system and a boatload of bugs from which the modders would dig an absolutely amazing game out.

I knew that even if Skyrim was considered to be crap by everyone else, I would still pour hundreds of hours of time into it. 228 hours so far, I'm going for 300

And that too, way too many hours wasted than i care to admit. Amateur, i'll be crossing 500 this week :teehee: Only non-Bethesda game (that i have data of) coming even close to the amounts of Oblivion and Fallouts is Dragon Age Origins, but even that is far off.

I wish i had time to replay it. Maybe Beth could break Skyrim again with the next patch and not fix it for a month? :P

I honestly didn't hear much about any TES after Morrowind, (heard plenty about that, but lacked a CPU to play it, ) and didn't hear anything until Oblivion came out, and it was super super fun, just a great over all RPG experience. I was hoping Skyrim would pull through as well, and it really has (for me anyway)

Another reason I bought it is because it's the perfect game to hold me over until Mass effect 3 arrives

Edit: Fallout 3 was another great one I adored. I knew beyond any doubt I would be getting Skyrim after playing both those. And so far, Skyrim has not disappointed.

Aside from the many bugs of course. In particular, it's demoralizing giving a follower a Daedric bow, only to see them wield nothing but their wooden stock bow. Oh well, small issue compared to all the good the game has.

I haven't yet; but plan to when the CK ships. Why? A fantasy Gary's Mod, and the option to tinker and add things.

My first Elderscrolls game was Oblivion, and I was very impressed with it's strong points; though I prefer something more like Gothic 2, Witcher, Baldur's Gate or ToEE.

** I fully expect to enjoy playing Skyrim the first time through; so that's an added bonus. :)

Because you'd be a fool not to! Greatest game of the last 8 years at least, and some say best since Baldur's Gate.

Enjoyed Fallout 3. Enjoyed Oblivion. Enjoy, in general, games like Oblivion. Enjoy the open world aspect as well.

So it was kind of simple.

I loved FO3 and liked NV. Glad to have you aboard. My post was sheer silliness. Of course I know there are those that don't know what the series was about. I hope you enjoy Skyrim and Oblivion and if you have the chance go back and play Morrowind. Have a wonderful night or day!
