Why does no one complain about this?

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 5:26 am

The animations in this game svck. The killing cut scenes are extremely lame and juvenile. I mean yeah, I understand that it would take a lot of extra work and whatever to put them in but seriously? You go to finish off a dragon with a giant axe and there is nothing even remotely cool looking about it. Another example is when you go to become a werewolf. (You can't even consider this a spoiler) Skorj cuts the Werewolf's arm and the fountain just magically fills with blood in a split second. How freaking lame is that? Don't get me wrong, I love this game. It just needs to be more graphic/hardcoe.

That is all

With a game of this magnitude it's impossible for all the animations to be realistic
I do find the finishers a bit annoying (especially the dragon ones) but they don't seem to trigger often enough to ruin the game.

And the cut scenes aren't that bad considering they are all done in the game engine.
A game like Dragon Age can have better animations due to less equipment and enemies, whereas Skyrim has quantity at the expense of quality.

Bethesda has never really been known for great animations, but they have done a much better job, it's just there is more focus on the animations when the game shows them close up and in slow motion

I will take Skyrims lesser grade animations and high level of content over the fancy pants animations and no content that the likes of Dragon Age 2 has any day.

I actually kind of like the third person animations, and the first person animations are as good as you can get them.

It'd help if the weapon swings had magnetism, so they looked like they connected with the enemy a bit more, but I can't complain much more than that.

Considering how far TES games have come in combat, I don't mind the current state that much. Morrowind combat always made me think of two old woman flailing at each other with brooms; it was stiff and rather awkward, imho. It feels more solid now and the finishers give it a bit of flavor. Maybe not as cool as the finishers in DAO, but still quite good. Don't even talk to me about DA2. That game should be banned for svcking so hard it presents a clear and present danger to the fabric of our universe.

Heh. My Significant Other once said that it looked like my 2-handed sword-wielding fighter was "knighting" his enemies. ;)

It needs the graphical flair and visceral combat of dark souls. Love the game though.

Ooh lookey. Another nit pick thread. Everybody knows that the biggest flaw is the inability to choose a iron kettle as my race. Bethesdas games lack any choices whatsoever. What kind of rpg doesn't give me EVERYTHING that I personally want? Bethesda refuses to let me role play the way I want. They should stop making games until they cater to all of MY wants and needs. Stop complaining about the little things.

Seriously tho, the animations are above average for a game with so much packed in to it, let alone the amount of animations already currently in game. No other game boasts a world this large and in depth and has better animations. Skyrim is leading the market by a landslide when it comes to open world rpgs.

Let me think of how to respond to this without sounding too...crass.

Graphics and animations aren't everything. In fact, they're nothing. Be thankful for the gameplay. Be thankful they didn't include the animations and cut the map in half. Be thankful that the world is as expansive as it is. Better graphics and animation? Get something better to complain about. Quality over aesthetics.

Edit:

I would LOVE this.

I'm guessing you don't crit often enough to really enjoy some of the most expansive collection of sequences that make you go "WOOT!" provided by the developers of this game. :P

Crit with dual one handed on a dragon face to face and there's an opportunity to pull an "old dragon killer" move by leaping on his head and driving your blades through the back of his skull. Who gets tired of grabbing a wild wolf by the head and kicking him into your blade? My personal favorite is managing to sneak crit with daggers and watch my enemy go down.

There are a limited number and some of the animations take less time. Ask yourself this, though... what if you had to sit there and wait while the bowl filled with blood? Eventually on toon three or four you'd be like "omg, why don't they just let me cut to the end of this scene? why did they make me sit through all this every time?" and if not you, then someone, trust me. And they'd be all over the forums wanting something different.

I enjoy the living heck out of this game. It's turned a hardcoe MMO girl into a 200+ hours single player girl, that's for sure. And I'm not bored or done and I have few complaints... Bethesda, you rock!

Having been around long before the days of Pong and PacMan, I'd have to say the graphics are pretty decent.

The cut-scenes don't bother me, and watching a cut-scene of my wife hoisting some bozo up off the ground on the end of her sword is cool enough.

As a Mage at level 48, I've yet to use a weapon on any dragon, so I can't say on that part of combat, but I've seen improvement in my wifes sword skills as I've leveled up. What were once simple and rather boring moves, has become some pretty cool swirl and slash attacks. (I used to protect her--now I get out of the way.)

The cut-scenes get better as you level up and skills improve. The cut-scenes at level 45, were more intense than they were at level 6, plus, they can't cut to a scene of you doing fancy moves you don't know yet.

However, If I were to mention something that could go away, it'd be the blood splattered on my "screen"--it's a bit too UT3 imho. Just the blood on the ground would be good enough.

I dislike the blugeoning with a sword kill animation and the fact even though it's a rigged scene, even if the wolf or bear is far from you it'll suddenly be right by you for the scene, they rarely line up the worst being sword to the open mouth, it's always just under the nose not where it should have been.
Aside from that I don't mind many of them, the whole stab and push it off your sword one is cool but I just wish it'd stop leaving me in third person mode when it's done and fix the glitch of the scene not happening so you just wait 20secs till the enemy is laying dead infront of you suddenly.

I think the animations in Skyrim are good enough, but the 3rd person finishers are fairly bad. There have been countless times I am forced into a 3rd person finisher and my weapon doesn't even touch my enemy. If I could just disable those, or better yet, disable all finishing moves, I wouldn't even have any complaints about the animations.

Agreed. This brings a similar piece of overhyped POS game to mind---SRTT. Talk about glam and glitter, zero substance and replay value. In time, I bet that game will probably go down in infamy for killing the SR series. I'd take all the glitches in Skyrim over 100 free and completely superficial games like that any day.
