Why Does The Site Run So Slowly For Me Now?

BGSF is one of my most frequented forums, yet with the new site change everything runs really slow for me. Is it like this for anyone else?

There have been other complaints. Some people have seen speed increases by disabling some scripts (notably prettifier.js). I've also heard the transparent .png backgrounds have been causing issues with some browsers, so maybe removing those will help.

Indeed.

There's nothing inherently slow about IPBoard, so I guess it's just a case of there being too much traffic for the servers to handle. If Bethesda care about their online presence (which they clearly do, or we wouldn't be here :P) that'll get fixed sooner or later.

edit: Unless you mean the page actually lagging, not just taking a long while to load. That's a combination of the transparent post background, static background image, and that bloody gradient login bar at the top. Check out the forum styles thread if you use a chrome, opera, or firefox, and you can get rid of all 3.

Given the http://code.google.com/p/google-code-prettify/source/browse/trunk/src/prettify.js, it shouldn't do anything really bad to performance unless there are a lot of code boxes.

I haven't experienced any lag myself, so it's all hearsay. Then again, the thread I've spent most time in lately is rife with code boxes and is where I heard the complaint, so...

Let's keep the new forum discussion to the existing threads. Closing this.
