This game and even Fallout 3 doesn't like any Intel Integrated Graphic Chipsets...it's not supported and it's a heavily underpowered and weak chipset. Because you are on a notebook/laptop, changing that to a real video card is more than likely not possible.

At least with the intel chipsets it's readily apparent you don't have a real gaming graphics card- some of the ATI and nVidia chipsets have (at various times) used very similar names/numbering schemes as their real graphics mini cards with discrete vram.

If you do buy a laptop that can be used for gaming (I generally caution against buying gaming laptops specifically) check the benchmarks for the card on tomshardware.com or a similarly respected benchmark/hardware site. I would also not trust the laptop manufacturer to clearly differentiate between what amount of availible graphics memory is shared versus dedicated- so always look up the card specs on wikipedia or a hardware site to be sure.

If you would rather not spend a lot of money on a laptop, you may be better off getting a cheaper laptop you can simply write off as something that can game at all and use the savings to buy a gaming desktop (refurbished Asus machines can be great deals but only if you're comfortable opening the case and mucking around with things- every refurbed desktop I've ever purchased was cheaper than the individual parts but I have had to do basic repairs to every single one.) The least serious repair I had to do was seat a graphics card that was loose and flopping around inside the case during shipping; I was lucky it had not been damaged nor had it damaged the mother board by bouncing around on the truck.

I call Intel graphics chips "Intel Sorry-Excuse-For-Graphics Chips." They are simply not gaming hardware. Last I heard, they lack even basic shader systems on them.

Also... Source engine games? Daaayum, that engine is scalable.

Some of our readers don't believe this next suggestion because they just haven't looked at the thrift shops lately. Laptops are what people want at home, and they are disposing of perfectly good desktops that have a lot of miles left in them, with only a few simple upgrades. For about $100, you can get a three year old desktop, with keyboard, speakers, and display. It will be a CRT, but all it needs is a little more space.

With another $100 - $150, you can give it new life and use it for a year or so while saving up for a newer machine. Instead of spending $450 or so for a new, but cheap and undesirable laptop, spend $100 each on a used, older laptop for convenience, and a not so old desktop for gaming on, and add appropriate upgrades to it.

(The only $100 laptops I know of are on eBay, sorry if that idea seems foreign.)

Intel's integrated cards are designed to keep costs down, keep battery life down, and display 2D GUIs, browsers, and office applications. In recent years they've made improvements to accelerate HD video. As a side effect, you can play some old games but generally only games that are over 5 years old and even then because the driver department is so small and underfunded (and their rendering method differs from nvidia and ati), they don't fix issues in games and there are a lot. Generally, DX7 games will work great. Anything higher is a gamble and no game manufacturer supports it usually (except for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.). In the case of NV, you could try that dx3d9.dll file if it works still (not sure it works on the latest game update). It was initially created so FO3 gamers with intel chipsets could play the game. Don't expect playable framerates even if it works, and keep in mind it is unsupported.

Intel chips use a lot of CPU power when rendering graphics. MS has some emulated GPU tech in Windows 7 that showed more FPS at certain resolutions running Crysis then on an actual Intel chip! People use to blame the performance on the lack of T&L, DX8/9/10/11, dedicated VRAM, etc. But the current chips have 64MB of dedicated RAM and hardware T&L plus DX9/10 features. But they can't even run games that worked fine on 64MB nvidia/ati cards from a few years ago!

It svcks buying a laptop and not being able to play games since you can't update the hardware but there are laptops that play games. Any dedicated laptop nvidia or ati card (not integrated) will play FO:NV better than either console. Even the MacBook's integrated nvidia 320m plays FO:NV with better settings than the 360 version. Intel, not so much

so can anyone tell me why its saying my processor is to slow? says you need at least a 2.0 and it says i have a 2.21.

That's a Dual-Cored CPU at that speed, or the equivalent, and only AMD sold any single cored CPU that was the equal of a Dual Cored Core Duo, and it was not a mere Sempron, it was an A64, the full-powered AMD processor.

Incidentally, it's a waste of time, usually, going to the SR Labs site. They are frequently wrong. This time they were correct.

oh figured thats what it was but wasnt sure. didnt think i had a dual core but wasnt sure but ty for the reply just gotta get a new processor and wait for the patches ^^

A great many Semprons were sold for now-obsolete sockets, especially s754, for which there weren't nearly as many A64s, and zero X2s made to fit. If you have either an s939 or AM-2, you'll need to do some searching to find processor upgrades, and most likely, a maninboard BIOS upgrade also. You could try an overclock, if your BIOS gives you access to the functions for that, and see how it helps. Some of the Semprons would accept a fairly sizable speed increase.

hmm alright i'll try that i know somewhere i got another motherboard and processor but dont know where or what it is but right now i got an am-2. i read somewhere that not having a dual core processor could be what causes the sound issues i've been having if thats true i wonder if thats what is making the doctor freeze up to where i have to hit esc to get him to do his thing i sure hope so.

hey Gorath thanks for all the suggestions man it really helped out i just upgraded my processor and my sound problems are gone and the doctor don't glitch up anymore haha now i hope the save game corruption after come fly with me is really fixed ^^
