Why doesnt Skyrim have cloud saving? (Steam)

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 1:21 am

I once heard an argument that Skyrim doesnt feature cloud saving because of the amount of saves you and the game constantly make as you play. I accepted this at first, then I noticed that Oblivion DOES have cloud saving, so any save arguments go right out the window as oblivion and skyrim have the same save system.

What say you, wheres our cloud saving?

Bethesda for some reason decided not to use that feature I have no idea why.

My Skyrim saves are a heck of alot bigger than my Oblivion ones. And I generate a bunch of them every game session. I don't really see the desire or need to have 100mb+ of saves popping up and down to & from whatever computer I might play Skyrim on.

And then there's the whole "and you need the same mod install on each computer as well" thing. I don't even understand why Oblivion would have the feature. Seems pretty stupid. (but, then, that's my general opinion of the whole "cloud" thing, so maybe I'm not the best judge.)

At one point I had over 3 gigs of saves. That's a lot of data to store on the Steam servers.

Especially since you only get 1 GB of storage on the Steam Cloud for all uploaded savegames and screenshots in your library.

I hate cloud saves... I'm a "what if" kind of player. I'll go back and play a two week old save game, just to see what the other options in a quest or a dialogue were. Cloud saves kill that for me, since I have to constantly clean out my saves.

I think Bethesda did this knowing that we were going to play a half dozen characters for months and months and months... Generating hundreds of saves each. This way, when I'm done with my character, I copy the saves to an archive and I start over! No more having to delete them and then try to get old characters to update to the cloud so I can play them!

I currently have five gigs of saved games, and that is AFTER clearing out about 4/5ths of them a few days ago. Compulsive saver here, i ended up cleaning out like 50 gigs of oblivion saves a few months ago.
