Why don't votes in poll do a "bump"? : Othor Games

When you vote in some forum poll, it doesn't "bump" the thread back to top of page, only if you post a reply does it bump. I'd like to see that changed - if people are taking the time to vote, it must be important to them. And with the 200 post lock limit, polls will end up locked too soon - before everyone had a chance to vote

Eh, I can see it being helpful on less crowded boards like this one, but it's not a huge deal. One thing that you have to consider is that on crowded boards like the Skyrim board, you've probably got a massive ratio of votes compared to actual posts. This would lead to any active poll being at the top of the page whenever someone votes, but doesn't add anything to the discussion, which can annoy people trying to follow the discussion. I think it's basically just a way to avoid topic clutter.

Personally I find the 'Light up a 'Poll' listed threads icon' system to be effective enough personally. In general, I dont vote much anyway.

It's not that big a deal. If someone has a point to make, I'd prefer hearing their reasoning in their own words rather than the OPs options anyway.

Most polls end up with 50 to 250 votes - but the Community Poll in Skyrim General forum has almost 3,500 votes

Well, I dont go over there much since I don't own skyrim, but I can't see MANY of those polls being anything more than 'WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE (City/character/armor/weapon/whatever)'

Only is people consider the poll important enough to actually vote will a poll stay on top. There are a lot of "WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE..' polls (too many, I agree), but those tend to get as many replies as votes, since it is just an excuse to post, really. So, they will stay on top for a little while then disappear after the kids have their say

Yes, a well designed/written poll must include the reasoning - BUT the O.P. wants feedback, wants to know if other people feel the same about whatever issue is covered

Because all someone would have to do is delete their vote and re vote to have their topic bounce to the top over and over again. As others have said there are alot of polls and they would always be at the top of the list.

Plus knowing the immaturity of Skyrim forum I think it would be abused and cause stress on the servers.

I understand that, but that can be done using the posts. I don't see how bumping the entire thread because of a vote is required. Let's say there's nothing but votes, it's not all that hard for the OP to flip a couple pages back. And in the worst case scenario (for the OP), the thread is really far back, all s/he has to do is go to his/her profile and check the list of threads they've made. If s/he wants feedback so badly, s/he shouldn't mind two extra clicks for the sake of saving the entire forum from being pages upon pages of polls.

This too. At least someone spamming "bump" over and over again is easy to catch and take action against. I could be wrong, but I highly doubt moderators can see who actually voted in a poll, so I can see something like this being HEAVILY abused.

I voted yes, but it could be bad for the forums if a few big poll topics come through at the same time.

Exactly. I'm not a big fan of polls anyway, but they have their purpose. It would be ridiculous to have to sort through a top list of polls to get down to the real threads though.

I voted don't care but I will add that when I do post in a poll I always state my vote in a post so that counts as a bump for me.

THAT could be a problem.

Maybe drop the option to change your vote? Can't change vote for any real world vote that I know about

You can only vote once, and if the forum quits allowing change vote, shouldn't be a big issue.

If people care enough to vote, then the topic should be at the top of page. It's sad that a well written and designed poll actually goes away faster than a crappy poll: the well designed poll gets fewer questions/corrections/complaints as replies than a poorly written poll, so disappears faster.

If they do something like that, they should make a seperate column for polls only so that the regular thread still runs without crowding the page with polls. This would allow a bumping feature and keep the polls from staying at the first page.

I think you're over-estimating the amount and popularity of polls; remember, the poll would still need people to vote in it to pop to top. Also, the "Your favorite xxx" are against teh forum rules

Where does it say "Your favorite ..." threads aren't allowed? I've seen hundreds in the Skyrim section and the mods don't seem to mind either.
