Why dont wall spells create actual barricades ...

it would be rather useful to set up a temporary wall that enemies cant pass through to keep distance from them as you send an unrelenting magic assault of shock bombs, flares and snowballs...

I like them as they are. Technically, you CAN run through a raging fire, but I wouldn't recommend it ;)

Well if they did set up actual walls, how would your spell be able to hit them? Spells don't go through walls most of the time.

Though creating a solid wall of ice would be rather interesting to allow you to escape from enemies.

Flames and Lightning are just two forms of energy, so they can't really create a solid barrier for you to use for protection.

It'd be nice to have a kind of 'barrier' spell. Like a rune on the ground in a large circle around yourself that nobody can walk through. So ranged attacks could still hit you, but people can't get up close.

I never thought about this! It could be useful for Mage - heck, it might even help balance destruction a bit! Encircle yourself in a wall of ice and prepare yourself for when the wall disappears, that sort of thing.

Or just blast through it as soon as your magic spell was ready to cast...

To be honest I was hoping for a sphere like barrier that I could create to protect me from dragon fire for a period of time... but I have to admit the improvements on magic from Oblivion are enormous! I was so thrilled but I can still understand the desire for more, more, more... thats cos we love magic and we love what Bethesda do with it... perhaps in future they will expand magic into new areas with additional spells that create this wall of ice... Hell, Id just be boxing in villagers for laughs!

Yeah but that only works when they are near dead. At that point you could just finish them.

also this is what I was expecting from wall spells

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6U_957eP7yY&feature=player_embedded be able to shoot over it, prevent things from coming through it but with added damage to things actually touching it
