I've just wasted an afternoon of my life having to go through endless downloads, installs, and reboots just to get past updates to Steam before I could even start to install New Vegas. The end result of that frustration was rendering all other steam games unplayable, and steam refusing to start up in offline mode any more. However, even working around those issues, steam refuses to accept the CD key saying its already been used...despite the CD case being shrinkwrapped and from a very reputable store.

End result, took the CD back to the shop and got a refund. I wanted so badly to play this game and even went as far as GIVING YOU MY MONEY...but that is apparently not enough, before I am blessed with your creation I need to endure the pain of that stinking, putrid, vile steam system. So I won't be playing New Vegas on my PC....and I won't be buying a console version because I didn't spent $4000 on a PC only to have to fallback to the toy under the TV.

I've struggled through steam in the past but this was the last straw, FAR more important things to do with my limited time, so will be buying software from vendors that give me a CD, and then let me install software form the CD, and then play it......EA manage it, CAPCOM manage it, even Activision let the odd game out without steam......so why can't you?

Hope something works out for you. My own install doesn't ever connect to Steam, but it was installed in a way that is a bit unconventional. I bought the game but because of my distrust of Steam, I never get to patch, and will run version 1 of their release for... the unforseeable future. That's not stellar. meh.

In USA at least they are good about taking back defective products. Some countries (like Finland) have not yet figured out the meaning of 'customer service'. They seem to have replaced that concept with 'Tough [censored] !' . Here in Finland I could have never bought the game, opened it, and ever taken it back for a refund.

Not trying to be a jerk, but why buy the game return it and make an account here just to rant? I think a official complaint to Bethesda, Obsidiomn, or BBB might be a much better way to go :shrug: ......And to be honest Steam is heads above GFWL

Your choices of games will be very limited in future as most companies are using steam nowadays. Its the future and its a great one in my opinion.

I'm not joining the mutants. When all fails, there's always World of Warcraft or Zdaemon or Sim City 3000 (provided you have some hardware that will run '98).

I only hate steam for two reasons.

1.) They don't package the whole game on the disc and make you download more. (i.e Supream Commander 2, only had 4gigs of the game on the disc at launch, had to download another 4 from steam.)

2.) Release Dates, because they make you wait till 12:00 AM Pacific Time, till they let you install it when you get retail.

Sounds like if you're having that many issues the problem is probably yourself or your computer and not steam.
