Why am I forced to care about Serana?

Post » Wed Nov 21, 2012 12:26 am

I started out doing dawnguard as a vampire. As I played through I THOUGHT that the story would progress in a way were i would have to make choice on whether i would kill serana to block out the sun, or not. Seeing as how a vampire(deranged immortal psychopathic killers)'s domestic family issues are stupid, i was fully prepared to kill her. And in this case i was playing as a deranged psychopathic killer vampire myself, so i was wanted to take it to the next level of evil.

We all know how the vampire side of the story ends.

Now that im playing as a "vampire hunter" im still expected to feel sorry for this evil vile creature's family matters. Im a vampire hunter, i want to kill ALL vampires because they're evil. Im not as stupid as Buffy, and Serana isnt Angel. Why am i niceing up to this vampire? It seems like they ALMOST address how helping Serana is necessary to stopping a greater threat, but thats all going on trusting HER information in the first place.

I dont know how its going to play out, but so far im getting forced into saying things like "why would your father say those things to you" and stuff like that. Im hoping being a vampire hunter isnt just dropped for *Serana and her story*.

Why is this game deciding all my morality for me?

The best you can do is
Spoiler
Convince her to get cured of Vampirism after the questline is over.

For me it was the other way around, I really wanted to get rid of her when playing as a vampire, but alas, there was no way. :/

Serana is essential and will always be essential. This is what makes her a good follower, during and after Dawnguard. But those who wish to kill her, are out of luck.

To be honest the entire serana area of dawnguard is so stupid your forced to like her and cant have a single choice ever about her God forbid they give you more then 1 choice.

serana is a leech and should be trodden on.
if i had the choice id resolve her family issues with a big hammer, make her dead (err..deader!), rip that elder scroll out of her dustpile and then continue spreading my particular brand of joy among the rest of her svckhead bretheren and use their dusty remains to grit the path to breezeholm during icy conditions.
vampire dust is very good at that! cheers

Maybe a little shower time with Serana might change your evil mind, then again maybe not:)

Yep, F3 had that as well.

Also, player choice, while growing increasingly rare in Bethesda games, are almost never present in any DLCs.
Just pretend that she cast Vampire's Seduction on you when you first met and roll with it :teehee:

Same reason why we are forced to deal with a psychotic group of evil barbaric humans who call themselves the Dawnguard. Gameplay reasons.

This. In previous games, the pc could force npc's to like him and do what he says using illusion spells. Now an npc is using illusion back. So that the main quest could essentially be made with one storyline for better or worse. It wouldn't be the first time anyone's heard of vampires cheating at first impressions. Perhaps they could have have at least made a optionally Serana-free Dawnguard storyline involving espionage instead having an insider companion. Be thankful npc's aren't using fury, fear and calm spells.

Now I think about it, this is why Aundae in Morrowind were kindling instead of dapper monsters you couldn't make eye contact with.

I liked morrowind beacuse of fact you could kill everyone and everything, you later couldn't finished quest and could spoil you whole game but that was more realistic then now when important characters just crouch down in pain and after few second stand again...
