Why is gamesas good

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 1:59 pm

I have recently watched in amusemant how ERTS and ATVI fought over each other in this holiday season, and one has already proven to be fun to watch by spitting out bug infested game over ridiculously malignant gaming platform. The other one remains to be seen. But gamesas never let us down, even though it doesn't spit out one game a year like ATVI does, every game it released is great.

So why is Bethesda able to make epic games while ERTS and ATVI have disappointed us all the time? It's because of Wall Street and stock holders. Bethesda is under zenimax, which is not a publicly traded entity. What do wall street and stockholders want? More money, more games released, not quality games. They don't care about future, and they only care about how many games are being sold and how much money collected. So you have ATVI spitting out a COD each year, Starcraft 2 separated in 3 games (3x the money), and ERTS releases bug ridden game under all the hype.

So be advised, that no matter how ERTS and ATVI says their game is good, they'll never be able to compete with Bethesda's work. Conclusion: never be hyped over games published by publicly traded game companies.

I only play Bethesda games, so I'm probably very biased, having nothing to compare their games to.
If I could use one word to describe why I think it's so:

Detail....things in their games that are in there...seemingly placed without caring if they're ever discovered or not.

I agree that there are certain things that would benefit from not being traded on the open market.

Game companies being one.

Utility companies being another.

And I don't know how intelligent it is in the long run for stock exchanges themselves to be traded on stock exchanges..

I'll stop now :whistling:

The one thing I notice Beth does really well is listening to their fans, and knowing a good thing when they see it. Every game Bethesda has released has been improved in a variety of ways, but these aren't just their own ideas, these are the ideas of fans as well as, and quite importantly, the modders. If anything, I'd say the modding community for these game are one of it's biggest successes. Not only does it add longevity to the game, forms a sense of community, but it makes it apparent what features the gamers want. And then it just becomes the simple act of implementing these modded changes and improving the game.

And I won't necessarily say publicly traded companies are evil, though I highly disagree that art and money can coexist. Some public companies do better than others, but I think it is a good thing that Bethesda is privately owned, and I really hope it stays that way...

Plus, how many other open world RPG's are there to compete with? Bethesda has a winning formula already, and they'd be pretty hard pressed to mess it up. (although many a fan [ex-fan?] might cry so, I have yet to be convinced)

the one thing I must point out is that Beth games come out buggy as all hell, without fail. But what makes them quality games is the time and effort put into them, they are made to be played for years whereas others are made to be played only until the next installment comes out, a year max.
