Why I Hate Skyrim

Post » Thu Jul 12, 2012 1:06 pm

I like a bit of a challenge. It's why I jump into fights with multiple foes.

Kid's these days don't understand how satisfying it is to finally defeat a really tough enemy and your reward is the victory.

They only want the candy. And when they don't get candy, they pout. Dragons only give you dragonbones and scales. Yet it doesn't matter because you killed a freaking dragon.

This. People complain about how Skyrim is too easy, now, when the game finally offers a challenge, people complain.

And that's your objective way of looking at it. The loot is my 'reward', you can have your victory. It's not like skyrim provides any sort of challenge anyway.

What sort of loot are you expecting? Sword of Kill Everything?

I mean, if it's a dungeon boss or something I can understand maybe. But if it's just random enemies, I mean, they can't all drop special loot every time.

When I was a kid and we would play RPG's, some fights could last half an hour and we might die many many times. I remember after a long and tense battle my cousin and brother and I would celebrate and cheer and stuff. It felt great on it's own.

I like candy and victory, frankly. :stare:
And dragon bones and scales are boss. They give me muh arrow making material.

Been having too many complaints during Oblivion Crisis at the end of third era.
Mighty heroes came crying about common bandits having glass/daedric gears to match their level.
Instead of getting rid of level scaling, Bethesda adjusted its magnitude and made plain ol' weapons do more damages in hands of higher level NPCs.
Should have known them, mighty heroes, that glass/daedric gears be they deserve to loot at level 60.
Them mighty heroes knew nothing about raising a proper warrior and fighting, so they be blamin' level scaling.
Wonder what absurd effect will come in next Elder Scroll from THIS complaint.

*shrugs*

It's not my fault -- JRPGs trained me to raid every dungeon expecting the sword of truthiness in every cave I find. The journey is not to find Igor the Red who kills everything with one blow, it is what he's carrying is what I'm most interested in. :bunny:

Wait, do you like the system or not, it's hard to tell.

So just because you're nearly evenly matched with an adversary, it means they should have a lot more to loot?

The only problem I have with this game when defeating a tough enemy is what the hell made them that tough, I loot them and all they have is a robe with no armor value, in my last play through I had multiple followers, one of them was a two hander with a superior ebony sword, high skill, high health, a master vampire was still able to knock that follower on it's ass, what's annoying is the only thing that makes these particular enemies tough is extremely high health, it's a shallow way to make a tough enemy, if it had been a giant then fine, at the very least they could have put an armor ward on the robes to add some realism.

My level 31 Nord just killed a Volkihar Vampire he encountered while roaming the Northern wilderness. It was the most difficult fight I've had in the game so far, requiring multiple reloads as well as using virtually all my good potions and scrolls and soul gems. When I finally killed her, I was excited. Until I looted her corpse to see the following treasure:

Iron War Axe
Vampire Dust
Robes of Eminent Destruction (value: 105 gold)
Boots
Copper and Ruby Circlet (value: 150 gold)

What is this nonsense? Once again in this game, there is absolutely no corresponding reward for accomplishing a difficult feat. Treasure is random and stupid. Never mind why the Robes of Eminent Destruction that should be worth thousands of gold are here only worth 105??? In other RPG's I would have at least gained EXPERIENCE POINTS, relative to the difficulty of the enemy, so that I wouldn't feel like it was a total waste of time/ resources. But here, I feel like it was just a big waste. I might as well have swung my sword at a million mudcrabs (my skill would still go up! whoopie!).

I've been playing the Elder Scrolls since Daggerfall but the skill system (dumbed down as it is, rather than an XP system), combined with level scaling and random loot and the removal of all depth (attributes, skills) has left the character development / progression system in Skyrim totally inferior to other roleplaying games. It makes me very sad, because so much in this game is so good.

So you're [censored]ing because a cloth wearing enemy dropped cloth? Sounds like its the way its supposed to be to me. That's not random. You get exactly what they used against you. Working as intended. And attributes svcked.

They did. You see that shiny white circle aura thing? That's a ward. Its just not on the robe. You got cloth from a mage, a cloth wearing enemy. Shocker. This just in, mages don't use gear like melee.

TES is not Diablo. We're in it for the ride, not the reward at the end.

I am aware of the ward spell, but it does not last long enough to account for their resiliance, nah, these particular enemies just have pumped up health, as I said, it's a shallow method.

PS. unlike the OP, I do not hate Skyrim, I love the game, I'm just nit picking.

This is the same reason I hate my mailbox.

But really... what a silly reason this is to hate on something that you can completely remove from your life by simply waking away.

Its not just extra health. Master vampires have a drain life that does 20hp/sec. They're difficult because they have a tough ability set. Trick to vampires, kill it in the head with fire
