Why is Netflix sometimes choppy?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 10:12 pm

Sometimes when I try to watch movies on Netflix the video becomes all choppy and sometimes still images stay there and it'll jump to where it should be and freeze again. When I look at the buffering bar it's well past where I'm currently at. My laptop is new, my internet is fast and I'm using Chrome as my browser. Sometimes if I reload a few times it'll play normally. Also video on any other website (Youtube, Hulu, etc.) will load fine at the same time.

Any advice?

It could be a problem with Sliverlight. Youtube and Hulu use Flash. I don't know if there is a workaround, like disabling Hardware Acceleration for Sliverlight, because I don't use Chrome.

Though the problem seems to be related to using Netflix in fullscreen mode. The problem doesn't occur in Windowed mode.
