This is true as well. We have a VERY LARGE problem with piracy here ( people literally sell pirated games and other crap on the streets IN FRONT OF COPS without a problem ) so that makes it infeasible to sell games in our language.

No kidding. It's just like I said, seeing a movie without the original voice actors is almost certainly going to be annoying Same goes for games.

On-topic again: Subtitles will be nice if possible in TES VI, BRAZIL is a HUGE MARKET, it deserves it. For Portugal will be ok too, i'm sure.

Indeed, I see no reason why they can't sub it, as that takes very little time and money to justify the sales, and perhaps create a market to justify a full voice over for the next game.

Subtitles would be fine, if not expected, for every language. I watch anime form time to time and I always try to get the Japanese version just because the English version just sounds so weird. If youre talking about subtitles, Bethesda will probably do that, if not, there will be mods for it(mabye).
If youre talking about voice actors, it wont happen.

Yeah but I don't think so. Exactly for the same reason as not doing portuguese voice actors . Getting +70 english speaking voice actors is already more than enough Subtitles however I'm guessing they'll do it for a few launguages, in which portuguese should be included, even though I'd never use it.


They chose english because it's a "universal" language...

As long time has been passed and nobody said anything "for real" about offering Brazilian Portuguese Subtitles for Skyrim, here I am to put this question back on the table!!
Please Bethesda!! Help thousands of eager brazilians to have access to real Brazilian portuguese subtitles!!
As said before, we in Brazil are a HUGE market of gameplayers, if we already are, buying games in english, could you really imagine if we could buy them in our mother language (or subtitles) ????
Think about that, I can assure you both of us, Sellers and users, would gain a lot!!
But please, think fast about putting avaiable Brazilians subtitles!!

We all know Brazil is -potentially- a big market for gaming, but piracy and absurdly high taxes prevent most of the population from having access to legitimate gaming platforms and legal game copies. Game studios are well aware of that, and most of them shy away from ever settling branch offices down here. Blizzard has been trying to adapt itself to our local gaming habits by decreasing retail prices, hiring well known voice talents, and offering local costumer service, but that's pretty much it.

There has been a turning point last year, when consoles started to be manufactured here, allowing prices to be reduced considerably. Let's see if that will encourage people to replace their illegal consoles, and I'm sure all major studios will be far more encouraged to invest on brazilian subtitles. As a long time player and aspiring game artist, nothing would make me happier than seeing the gaming industry flourish around here. For now, it's damn near impossible.

Problem is: are you sure you can rely on the translations. I have terrible memories of the French versions of both Morrowind and Oblivion... I play Skyrim in English now.

Indeed, game translations and dubbing have a long tradition of being either poor or unreliable, in most languages. They simply lack the production value of the original title. In countries where people are systematically exposed to poor adaptations, the audience will be more forgiving, and that won't affect sales as much as it would in countries where most of the target audience has grown used to english products for decades. It works just the same in the movie industry, and any studio would be wise to allow the player to choose which language suits them best.

BS! Play the game in English or don't play it, simple.

On a side note, I'd hate to see Oscar nominated talents such as Max von Sydow and Christopher Plummer, along with the entire brilliant cast that has been voicing TES games since Morrowind, replaced with local television voice actors and possibly embarassing local celebrities. I've been playing games for nearly 30 years, and thanks to that, english has become my second language and easily my primary gaming language. There's something fundamentally wrong when you hear Tamriel NPCs swearing in portuguese, especially if they employ contemporary slangs.
Here's a tip for younger players: Keep playing in english and don't be put off by words you don't promptly recognize. Games will teach you a second language far more effectively than any school ever will.
