I for one have never had a problem with it. If anything, it's helpful; one place on my taskbar where I can launch all my games from and buy new ones. I in particular like to have hard copies of my games, but even if you download all the games through Steam and then your computer is wiped etc. can't you then just redownload the games? Bit of a hassle I suppose but I really don't see what all the fuss is about, especially directly preceding 11/11/11. It seemed like everyone was boycotting because of Steam and I was worried because I didn't have it yet and I've never gamed seriously on PC before, but it turns out its really good.
