Why shouldn't I jump ship? Good bye xBox

OK all you Mouse Keyboarders.

After watching the Skyrim Mods Series by MMOxReview on youTube, and wishing I could kick start some of the Quests through the Console I've decided to ditch the xBox360 for the next TES.

Unless M$ figures out a way to make some of the Mods available, I'm gone.

Why shouldn't I?

I got a new graphics card to play Skyrim on my PC after being fed up with the problems on PS3.. it is alot better in just about every sense, the only thing I miss is not being in bed while I play it!

X360 and PS3 are like 5-6 years old hardware. It is a myth that you need a "super" PC to run skyrim.
And if you got some FPS issues, just reduce the AA and you still got better performance than X360 or PS3.

And MODs, nothing more to say.

Mods won't be coming to consoles, for skyrim anyway. There's too much work involved in making sure they're safe. Plus it's free and MS don't like free :P

You can get a 360 wired controller and play most pc games with it. Like Skyrim, GTA IV, Fallout, Just Cause 2... hook your PC up to your tv and chill in bed/on the couch while you play :)

The fact that the 360 and ps3 are 5-6 year old hardware isnt really an issue providing the game is designed with the particular console in mind.. Unfortunatley Skyrim is not (especially in the case of the PS3), so by all means if possible play it on a PC.

Why would you wait for the next one? Just get Skyrim for your PC now.. Who knows how long you'll be waiting, otherwise.

I tried to get a HTPC/Gaming PC working about 6 years ago struggled to get the VGA-to-Component Video Conversion working. I guess that is a lot easier now.

Defo mate. HDMI is simple and also carries audio as well as video.

I might but I think I have about 600 hours into the game already. Not quite played out but lets say I'm ready for some DLC. Not sure the budget is there for a new PC now and then upgrades or replacement when TES VI releases next year (hint, hint Bethesda! Lets get a move on!)

Try 2015-2016 =p

And you can play in bed on your pc, the girlfriend [censored]ed about me not spending enough time with her when I was home, so I did the sensible thing and popped my monitor on the bedside table, set my box up underneath it and got with the wireless trend^_^

Skyrim for PC has built in support for the 360 controller. You can get a 360 controller/wireless receiver, point your monitor at your bed, and play in bed with a controller.

Sure I could but..
  • I really don't get along with the xbox controller (call it an irational fear)
  • My PC is down in the office and I need to be able to work from it (couldn't really do spreadsheets from bed with a controller!)
  • The accuracy of having a keyboard/mouse, especially for archery, is alllllmost worth giving up the bed for. Almost
So yeah, it could be possible, but I'd need a dedicated gaming rig for that and a controller that didn't feel like I was holding a potato.

That might be a bit premature. I doubt the next TES will come out before the next Xbox. Still, I think you would enjoy Skyrim on PC.

Good news. I'm fairly certain you can export your Xbox save and play it on PC. As for not being able to afford a PC for Skyrim: I'm playing on a rig I bought 3 years ago for $400. It wasn't even considered cutting edge then. We're talking mini-atx board, 4 Gigs of ram, a Core2Quad and a 9500GT... with passive cooling! The game runs great.

Do the IR recievers for PC come in cheap?

They make a Wireless Xbox 360 for Windows controller comes with the USB wireless connection hub which works great. Funny part it costs the same as just a wireless controller for the 360....

I'm a PC player but for Skyrim I decided to use the Xbox gamepad. A modern PC with a DVI output can be connected to any television with an HDMI input via an adapter, not to mention that some PCs got HDMI too. Hence you can have the best of both worlds on PC.

The last time I modded a PC Game was Unreal Tournament (yeah, the first one. Noobs)

How are Mods handled?

Looks like Steam filters them for.....? Viruses, Malware, XXX Content. etc?

While Nexus does not? You rely on DL count and Endorsemants?

Thanks

I'm not sure if they scan if when it gets uploaded, seems silly if it doesn't because it could kill the server.

NMM handles mods easily. Download with manager option on the site, opens the manager, from there you can activate the mod, deactivate and uninstall and remove to.

Pretty straight forward.

I never had problems with Nexus, not one virus.
DL count and Endorsemants are a good help, but feel free to search for whatever you like.

Steam handle mods automatic, on nexus there is a modmanager or if you know how to handle a mod you can do it yourself.

They don't cost too much and one is all you need to link as many controllers as you like.

I even use controller mouse instead of keyboard mouse for all my FPS games as well, anologue movement control is far superiour to digital keyboard movement, it deosn't gimp you in any way as I can still top leaderboards using it.
There are plenty buttons between the controller (all the ones reachable with your left thumb and fingers) as well as mice with plenty of buttons.
Even for sims like ARMA 2 I only ever need to use the keyboard for text chat.

Never like the xbox, always loved the controller though. Coming from someone who also owns a PS3 and all Playstations before it, the xbox controller fits man sized hands better and is build to last unlike the actual console.

Enjoy your new lease of life in PC modding for not just Skyrim but multitudes of games.
Choice, what the PC is really about. ;)

Agreed, One thing I could never stand about PC gaming was the Keyboard/Mouse.

Any issues lately with Graphics Card to Software incompatibility? I seem to remember in '99/00 there were some problems with Software Developers and GPU Manufacturers joining forces to snuff each other out. You could play UT on a Rage card but not on nVidia or something like that....

Should I spec a Solid State Drive on the next PC?

Is there a benchmark for measuring a Mods resource usage?
