Why "tab" and "E""Enter" won't work

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 12:39 pm

I mean when you choose all your ingredients for making a portion and then press "R" to craft, then a prompt will pop up (in form of a dialog box) asking for confirmation with a simple "Yes" and "No". But I can't use "Tab" for "No" or "E"/"Enter" for "Yes". I need to use the mouse. Is this intended? If yes, then Bethesda needs to fire the UI designer! It's REALLY frustrating! I just can't believe they didn't implement this?! I mean what the hell?!

It just doesn't make any sense. The game makes you to use keyboeard for navigating in menus (even if you don't like/want to!) and then at the end when you accept to use the keyboard and your left hand to navigate, it'll show you its middle finger by REQUIRING you to use the mouse for confirming your work.

I just recently got Skyrim and frankly I thought by now (I mean 7 months after the initial launch) they should have fixed all the issues with their so called updates. guess I was wrong!

You don't have to use the mouse. You can press 'Y' for Yes and 'N' for No.

You're welcome.

Thanks for the quick replay, but still using "Tab" and "E" was more easier/logical.

Did you re-map any keys? This game hates it when you re-map keys.

Doesn't matter. "Tab" (cancel) and "E"/"Enter" (active) suprisingly, oppositely, and quite inconsistently to the whole menu system won't do nothing in dialog boxes! They intsead decided to use "Y" and "N" for canceling and confirming dialog boxes! Two completely new keys, when they already had those function in two other keys. The UI desighner should get a medal!?

This comes from a person who's calling another person's post stupid. Yeah, right.

BTW, how did you find my answer rude?

EDIT: Oh, and proper punctuation, kid. Try to learn it. It's good for your future.

this thread's quality has gone through the roof

there is absolutely nothing wrong with using y/n i don't get why anybody would complain about that. you'd think they'd be happy more of their 108 keys were being used in a console game! it's not like y/n are that far out of the way, unless you've only got one hand or something.

the only problem with the interface in those windows is that there's no shortcuts for OK/cancel prompts.

Did you even read the whole thread? The problem is the inconsistency in the menu system. Yeah, there is nothing wrong using "Y" and "N", but why introduce two different keys for the same functions you have already on another two keys? Besides, you can reach "Tab" and "E" easier with your left hand, and these are the two keys one is using a lot navigating the menu to confirm and cancel different tasks. To make things even worse "Y" and "N" don't work in all dialog boxes, for example in dialog box for confirming a save overwrite, you have to use the mouse and click "Yes" to confirm the action.

Oh, BTW, you got your both hands I presume? Then maybe you want to use the little finger of your left hand to hold "Shift" at the start of your sentences to make the first letter of your first word capital or when you are using first person pronoun. And maybe put a full stop at the end of your sentences, so people can read what you are trying to write (does not really help in your case, though.)

Good day.
