The wasteland is chock full o foes who want to end your life... they're bored, what else do they have other than rage and bloodsports wherein something else gets enraged... the beautiful Spring fresh cycle of hatred... mmm, smells like gangrene, starvation and gunpowder.

if you understand the story line, then Rage makes sense. it's rage against mysterious dictatorship (called 'authority'). authority experiments some gruesome thing with survivors, and mutants. survivors get rage against it. Rage 2 will be the main story which the whole resistance will fight back. we will face with General Cross (possibly final boss or something).

Really Awful Game Engine, or the rage consumers feel once they see how many limitations this file hog megatexture concept involves, not to mention the crap beginning and ending.

If it's meant to be about the rage of the Bandits and Mutants, the meaning of the title certainly missed it's mark, because killing them is child's play. I've been using melee on most of them, even the pukers.

You want to play a game that has the fear of enraged enemies in it, try Dead Island. The Infected are quite daunting to deal with .You can get chills when you hear their enraged screams. Time to start looking for a safe place to run to.

lol at the acronym fail.

Read something somewhere that Rage is the name of some god... somehow related to doomguy. *Shurgs*

If you're referring to http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Comicbook/Doom,...you should realize that such articles based on comic book adaptations often have nothing to do with the actual game projects, intentions or theme names, and can involve a lot of speculation even on those unrelated projects that merely are licensed to use the name at best. If you click on the Unstoppable Rage link, it also refers to hero themes in general, like the The Hulk.

Well, you could have atleast come up with an acronym that had the correct letters in it... Really Awful Game Engine.

Personally, I enjoyed the game, but to each their own. Still no idea on the title though.

Don't have the link, but didn't Carmack say that his 'migration to consoles would "enrage" the PC gaming community'.... 'nuff said?

I think it was a feeling they were going for but didn't quite capture in the limitations of the game. In a way you can sort of kind of feel it but you would have to think hard on your experiences to do so.

Darn canadians and their "eh"...lol

It could have been just a project name. Carmack may have been using as an acronym for the IdTech5 (Really Awesome Game Engine) which I'm sure is being used for Doom 4 development and when they started messing around with it they started making the game to demo the capabilities and it just stuck. Often times companies will use codenames to keep projects under wraps - some are actually funny. One of the Apple projects around the Mac OS or computer (can't remember which) was referred to as "Little Big Mac".

Oh the other hand it could have something to do with the little bit of lore seen surrounding the game. I heard a line in a video "The Great God Apothus reached out his mighty hand and punished both the guilty and the innocent." or something along those lines.

It would be neat to get an answer from the developers.

Named after what players would feel after realizing a $60 AAA title has little to no replay value.
