Why the lvl cap if you can get more xp than the cap? (360)

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 2:52 pm

I just wish they would calculate the total amount of xp you can earn in the game if you did every possible thing and make that the cap. Of course, if you choose certain paths you would never reach that point because some quests wouldnt be able to be completed due to faction reqs. I just want to remain able to develop my char. Maybe it's just me but aside from the roleplaying aspect I love growing my character. I hit 30 before I even hit the strip, and didn't go farming xp, just followed side/unmarked quest lines. While I love a story in a rpg, i also enjoy exploring and building my char. Once i know i am at my limit, it kind of kills it for me. Why not make it so there is no way to hit the cap while doing all the quests your playstyle/faction has avail. Of course mobs that respawn after a certain amount of time lend to this being abused, but i just really lose touch after i hit the cap, same thing happened to me with fallout 3.

Well yea you do gain XP a bit too fast (even in Fallout 3) it wouldn't be all that fair, since theres 4 paths of "everything" you can do in the game they would have to do the calculations 4 times atleast. but that is why you get it for the PC and download the mods to reduce the amount you get for everything. Right now I am gaining 25% of the original XP amount :woot: . anyways it svcks and I guess they did it for the casual gamers who will be playing who want to become a god like character in their travels with minimal amount of work?

Yeah. levelcaps svcks, I agree. but that's just how it is. And, by the way, the game is not about reaching top-level. We must remember that and find our fun otherwise... :grad:

Since enemies respawn in some areas there's no way to calculate this.

I just wish it still kept track of exp as a sort of score even once you hit max level.

One thing to bear in mind is that if they go down the road of "You have to do absolutely everything you can possibly do" to reach the level cap (bearing in mind that we have various optional routes to the end of the game, some which might be longer than others), the more casual gamers will be locked to a middling level at most by the time they finish the game. Only the 'completionists' (I only used this to highlight the difference and not bash anyone) will manage to hit the max level.

Given that the majority of people are casual gamers, do you really want to deny them access to the higher levels in the game and thus possibly annoy them to the point they will never buy another cRPG again, and also spread the word around the casual gaming community that games like New Vegas are to be avoided like the plague ?. The major effect of this if it happens will be that sales of the next cRPG will be poor, possibly poor enough that no more cRPG's will be made by developers because it's a niche market that doesn't sell well.

Maybe an on going use of xp after the cap in some form, such as one off temporary expenditures. Abilities or something.

And/or maybe skills that slowly degenerates somewhat after the cap, like aging. Extra XP could then be used to maintain yourself and/or on one off abilities. You could start specialising in something else but then due to neglect you would loose other skills. Eventually you'd just get too old to keep up and face the bitter end.

maybe.

Or somethun :P

But yeah, having companions and leet words makes you lvl up quite fast, maybe don't do those things :)

On a side note, FO3 was much, much, much easier to lvl up so I think they really did try to make it last.
