I joined the forum yesterday and I have seen many people ask RP related questions which lead to many answers asking "who cares?" or other very rude comments about RPers. If it's clearly stated in the OP that the person intends to Role Play, why ask who cares? It's obvious that the person asking the question cares about the answer otherwise they wouldn't have asked the question. It seems that most people who post in the Skyrim forum are more interested in mechanics and what not, and this is understandable, but the constant negativity I see towards many RP related questions is quite upsetting.
I'm suggesting maybe a RP sub-forum for people to ask questions specific to their wanting to RP in skyrim. Or maybe allowing people to use an RP tag or something in the title, hopefully to prevent the negative comments.
There is an RP section. For now, up until the first few months after release, don't consider the Skyrim section a part of these forums. After that time, most of that lot would have gone back to playing CoD and you'd be able to discuss things openly.
If you check the Fallout 3, NV, Oblivion and Morrowind sections, people are pretty polite and open minded.
It might be because the Skyrim forum is out of control. I'm sure if you ask about RP in the Oblivion or Morrowind forums you'd be respected and advised greatly. But right now, everyone is so obsessed whether the player character of Skyrim is going to have knuckle hair or not. You might also be better off in the Lore section.

Before delving into people criticizing "role-playing"... can someone give me some idea of what "role-playing" actually is? I would have thought anyone playing an RPG in any serious manner would technically be role-playing... hence the term role-playing game. However, that doesn't appear to be the case to many people. For me, role-playing has always been just playing the RPG in the way it's clearly meant to be played... by making a character and progressing them as they grow more powerful, experience new things, and grow more into a distinct character. That's something I've always felt was at the heart of any RPG game... hence "role-playing" is demanded by every RPG because it's what they're named for and have as the core of their gameplay.
If people in the Skyrim section are disliking role-playing with TES series being a role-playing series... there's a very big problem that I don't fully understand. However, given the way people tend to separate the term "role-playing" from the fact that they're playing a game that's classified as a role-playing game would lead me to believe that the widespread definition of "role-playing" is different from what I had envisioned. So... what is "role-playing" and why is it something that seems so unnecessary to fans of an RPG game/series and is treated more like a rare accessory rather than a core design style?
