Why there won`t be an open ended DLC for New Vegas

Post » Sat Jul 09, 2011 11:06 am

I`m sure most of us know New Vegas will not have an open ended DLC like broken steel in Fallout3. I guess the reason is pretty obvious...3 different endings with very different outcomes for just about everywhere on the map. One possibility would be to launch 3 DLC`s for the one main map, each one a continuation of the original story with its 3 different outcomes. I realise plots and suchlike would be a nightmare, but think of all the R&D that won`t have to be done for the basic map and engine.

The Dino's don't want it. So therefore we can't question it. ;)

There are four main endings and the changes to the game world go deep then just the main factions. There are many smaller factions, people and companions to factor in as well.

It isn't going to happen. Devs said so long before New Vegas ever came out. The game warns you it is going to end. So make a save if you want to just free roam or better yet put off doing the main quest till you run out of things to do. Devs made it clear they arn't going to make it open ended.

Too many variations to account for.
Each DLC would have to be close to an 1600/2400 MSP expansion.
So four expansions just cause you can't reload a save prior to the final battle?
Sounds very unnecessary to me.

This sounds like it's supposed to be a comment on something. No BS that there's going to not be any open-ended DLC, but that's because it's better that way. Bethesda pulled a heck of a stunt when they launced Broken Steel, but that's because they did a good job on it. Frankly, if Obsidian did it (and I'm not saying they're bad at making DLC), it would probably svck testies. And there's already been a ton of stuff implemented already in the few DLC's already released, for instance, if you bought both Dead Money and Honest Hearts, you just got an extra 10 possible levels you can max to. That's over 100 extra skill points (on a standard score) for you to distribute, and a hellofa long time to get there (considering every level takes a few thousand xp. to level up). And not to mention the perks, of course you can't get them all, so why not make new characters/saves to prioritize on getting a few specific ones?

And one more thing, I literally have no idea why you've posted this so late into the concept (which has already been acknowledged consecutive times) that has been noted by both Obsidian and Bethesda, followed by many other fans of the Fallout franchise of why there won't be any DLC for continuation of the main storyline. We already get it.

Game design, not to mention the amount of stuff needed to be changed after the ending wouldn't be worth it.

You can question it all you want but you got your answer long before the game ever came out and again many times after it came out. It's like a bratty kid throwing a tantrum over wanting their mom to by them candy when they have long since left the store. Sometimes you just have to take No as an answer and get over it.

The beauty of this series has always been that it adjusts the outcome of the game at the end, based on the player's in-game actions; and that its different when they play it again and make differing choices. Fallout is a series where the player is expected to play it again ~differently, not to play it indefinitely. IMO players do it a disservice by demanding that on top of all that it seeks to provide.

And then you would need different endings of the different DLC's aswell, and then people want an extension of that story too?
Or is it just gonna, err, end like Broken Steel did? "You've saved the D.C.! Now, hero of the wastes, go and collect cameras."
That was rather cheap, I felt no closure what so ever to the story because of that. And then you just roamed around, killing innocent people, writing stuff with corpses on the ground, until you got bored and stopped playing F3.

Dude, that was my idea from the last time someone posted a thread like this. Give it back.

I liked broken steel, mainly because it worked pretty well. But why wouldn′t FNV work with an open ending? That′s becuase F3 had one possible ending, FNV have 4. The game would just be one big mess. So no, Won′t happend and Shouldn′t happend.

Really? I'm prety sure you could destroy the Brotherhood of Steel or Destroy Adams Air Force Base. 2 endings, not 1.

And if you include the save the purifier or lace the purifier, you have 2 endings again.

So technically you have 4 endings.

Well, technically it's four alone. Because you can be either good or evil, and which one of those you pick, you also have to pick what to do with the purifier = 4.
I've never really considered what happens at Adams AFB to be an actual ending, just because of the elongation.

And if you take into account all the variations of New Vegas endings, it technically has over twenty endings.

The lonewanderer did not blow up the bos or put fev in the purifier. Broken Steel shows us he did not, and if he did it was not very potent.

He most certainly did not blow up the bos. The story does not support it. That is one of the reasons I like fo3 more......... I know what happened.

Well you CAN choose to bomb the Citadel at Adams AFB. A lot of people die if you do.

:lmao:

No they didn't. There were no consequences at all for the endgame decisions. If you activate the purifier, what happens? A tiny amount of the water on the map is clean, and you might bump into water caravans every now and again. Wow.

And what if you poisoned the water? Where is the mass genocide I was promised? The only person to get sick is me, and I have to drink a ton of the stuff before I even die. And never mind the fact that I helped the Enclave, I'm railroaded into helping the BOS yet again.

That's exactly the problem. People don't realize the scale of the "consequences"(which are kinda faux in F3 anyway) which are even bigger in NV.

On the other hand, I wouldn't really mind a "non-canon" easter-egg Freeplay after beating the game. Something like Fallout 2. :foodndrink:

if theres not gonna be one, then why are there files in the Voices.bsa that have Mr new vegas saying 4 different ending broadcasts? and then more from him saying other things after the ending. and if youve ever put on your radio in the final battle, you'd hear Mr new vegas saying something about the boomers' plane flying around freeside. i dont know whyd they cut so much out from the game.... maybe Lonesome Road could extend the ending but then make another ending with Ulysses... Idk....just a thought.

Heres Mr. New Vegas with the endings.....

Because they had originally planned to try and make post-end play before they realized it couldn't be done.

Say the oath with me: "First, do not help. Second, be obstructive. Third, conflict with Fallout 3 fans whenever possible. Last, be a nuisance."
