Why won't it use the conversation I pick?

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 1:40 pm

Anyone else having a problem with selecting a conversation response and the game using one of the others?

I make sure the one I want to say is highlighted, and in the center (selected?) position when I click on it, but VERY often the game decides I wanted to ask/say
something else - usually again, and again, and again. Even something as simple as donating to the beggar in Whiterun tries to make me give him the Argonian
Ale he wants (that I want to keep so I can track him down using the quest pointer).

Is there some way to select other than a mouse click, just in case this is a mouse related bug?

To answer your last question first: If the line is actually highlighted (whether or not in the center) you can use the enter or return key to activate. (NB: I have my "Use" key remapped to [Enter] so if you don't it might be the [E] key for you.

To answer your first question: I still have problems with this. Which line is actually highlighted may be difficult to discern. I have found that sometimes it takes a fraction of a second and may require scrolling the list for a line to actually become highlighted. Sometimes a line won't highlight until the NPC quits speaking.

All-in-all, this is a really clumsy interface.

It might be a case of mouse issues. Ive had a few games on PC (including Fallout 3) that had the mouse offset by a big margin. That is to say what I had the onscreen mouse hovered over was not what it clicked on. I dont recall how I solved it, other than it was either an incorrect graphics card setting or it was a conflicting program interfering with the mouse and the game.

It's not even that I'm clicking the topics out of order - when it bugs, it defaults to the top of the list (that I have usually tried already) rather than the one immediately above the one I select.

there's a bug on PC where the game sometimes loses the mouse pointer entirely, and will use the currently highlighted option regardless of where you click.

Feels like a bug introduced while porting from Xbox.

That sounds possible. Who do you think will fix the bug first, the modding community or developers?

What I find on the PC is that the dialog highlight will not move the 1st time my mouse moves to another selection. To get it to highlight the one I want to click I sweep my mouse up and down 2 or 3 times over the one I want and I will see it clearly highlight and I know it's now safe to click.

Patch 1.3 and this bug is still alive and well. Everyone else still got it too, or is it just me?
