Will followers level up if you dismiss them?

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 12:54 pm

I tried using Wabbajack on Brelyna and ended up destroying the interior of my house. Then she bugged out on me because the college was in lockdown and would not follow me afterwards...

So now that the college is stable again, if I dismiss her and go back for her later, will she be levelled?

As far as I understand it, the process to level a follower is:

1. Dismiss them.
2. Wabajack them until they turn into something else, like a bunny, chicken or sweet roll or whatever (not just a lightning strike or other Wabbajack effects).
3. Wait until the "Wabbaffects" wear off and they return to their regular self.
4. Re-recruit them in their glorious newly leveled form.

So, what exactly happened during her Wabbajacking?

Oh nice! Never knew you could do that to followers! I've lost Lydia and Jenessa because they slowly got lower in level then the enemies of the world...and also probably because they got caught in one of my AOE spells so now I'm using Belrand and he's alright.

I'm wondering if this was fixed with the 1.4 patch.

I used the Wabbajack on Lydia, turned her into a Mudcrab and she seems to be much higher than level 10 (about the time I entered Whiterun). Later in the game I tried to use it on Mjoll, but only got the fire- and frost-based offensive spells. No matter what I tried: zoning in and out, waiting, logging out and back in I never got the morph on her. It's quite possible that Mjoll was already maxed because I'm pretty sure I was 42 or 43 before I ever entered Riften, but I never got the morph on her. Yes, she was dismissed every time I tried.

Now if this 'glitch' was fixed would we no longer get the morphs on our followers?

As far as I understand it, the Wabbajacking only works on non-essential followers, and Mjoll is essential.

Ah. I may test it on another one Whiterun then.

I've heard people say she's "essential" so she really won't die even if I hit her when she's down? I've never tested it because she's too sweet to attack.

True, essential characters will only "Tebow" when they should be dead.

Mjoll is sweet, until you hear her tell you how she misses her father the thousandth time; usually during some scripted dialogue...

Sometimes I just felt like reuniting them both. :whoops:

Yeah, I just don't have the heart to test it on her...even to reload.

Well, that doesn't make her not sweet...it's just limited scripted dialogue and I don't slight her for that. :P I've played enough games that I can just ignore the repetitive dialogue...for the most part - I'm still gonna' kill Nazeem after the last expansion has been released.

Nope lol. Dismissing does nothing level-wise on consoles.

It's more of a Tosh.0 reference than football, I would think.

I assumed that when Tosh said it, he was was referencing Tim Tebow and his "taking a knee" pose.

Tim Tebow is a football player. Sooo there you go.

Also, I didn't know you could fiddle with non-essential followers to get them to level so easy via Wabbajack. I will have to try that.

Yeah, he's referencing Tebow, but the term Tebowing never would have gained popularity if Daniel Tosh hadn't made fun of it so well. Therefore, it's a Tosh.0 reference because no one would know what Tebowing is without Tosh.0 having popularized it.

I'm pretty sure someone else would've come up with it. No need to prop up some comedian that is basically copying The Soup. :P

As someone already mentioned it won't work on Mjoll because she's essential. (I was trying just last night and am on the Xbox 360)

I found the easiest way is to equip your follower with a piece of armor (make sure they are wearing it). Save at this point, in case you kill them (Wabbajack can kill) Then dismiss them, an open field where there are no witnesses is best (so you don't destroy your home). Once they successfully turn into something such as a mudcrab or something wait for them to turn back. If when they turn back they are NOT wearing the armor you had given them... Success!!

I did this last night with with Jordis and it was awesome! Low level creatures she was going down on one knee. After following this with the wabbajack she was able to go toe to toe with a giant and survive with plenty of health!

Oh and the most recent patches haven't stopped this from working. Xbox makes you accept the update and I did this just last night after patch 1.5

You don't think Joel McHale (and the writing staff) is (are) funny? :o

Damn, nice. I didn't do that with Lydia, but I know it worked because when I took her with me there was no way she was level 10.

Yeah, you can definitely tell the difference. I was so disappointed but after doing this Jordis was an absolute beast! I haven't used followers at all. I usually don't like them due to them getting in the way. But since I finished most everything I figured I'd go with one. Definitely having fun.

 That's basically what I'm doing. When I'm in towns I wear Noble Clothes so it looks like I have a bodyguard. :P

 I'll have to do that one. I've got Jordis decked out in full Daedric armor... then went to the Vigilant of Stendar house (can't remember the name of it, north east in the middle of nowhere) and just hung out inside. They seemed fine with someone in full daedric armor in there.. especially since it was made from daedric hearts that were stolen from them. :P

Now, that's irony. I've got Mjoll in Legendary Falmer Armor. :P

I've enchanted Noble Clothes, Fine Boots (brown ones), and a Gold and Ruby Circlet and renamed them Pirate Princess' Robes, Pirate Princess' Boots, and Pirate Princess' Circlet.
