Will New Vages be 3d supported by any chance?

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 8:26 pm

I heard in the media the other day that some of the new Xbox 360 and PC titles will be having 3d support add to them through downloadable patches. I just want to say that New Vegas or Fallout 3 with a 3d patch would be a mind blowing experence. Please look into if your not already.

I wouldn't expect it, I imagine Obsidian had bigger concerns than implementing a feature like this.

Hahaha, I agree Tallest. To be honest, I think as it stands, Fallouts graphics are good enough, we don't need 'GOGGLES THAT ADD TO 3-D EXPERIENCE' or 'HD REQUIRED' or all these obsessions with 'realistic graphics'. Maybe I'm just a very easy man to please, but I enjoyed Oblivion and I enjoyed Fallout 3, and judging what I've seen Fallout: New Vegas will be enjoyed as well. Because honestly, I like how Obsidian seems to have said 'It isn't broken, lets not fix it guys' so instead some 'BRAND NEW ENGINE WITH TOP OF THE LINE GRAPHICS' we would have, because usually, a new graphics game in a year or so, would mean NV would be.....mediocre at best in terms of storyline and immersion.

Fallout 3 had 3D support for the PC, don't see why New Vegas would be any different.

@FTW, I thought he meant like '3-D movies' and the like. Cause if the gaming industry is more concerned on graphics only, the market is full of simpletons ;_;

I was talking about the pop off the screen kind of 3d that you need the glasses for. I agree that fallout is a great game that is great for its story and environment not only just its gun play. Still me personlly, I think it would be neat experience to have some of the particle effects, bullets and rockets in 3d. From the sound of it, I am alone on this view.

This is a 3D First Person RPG just like Fallout 3 is.

Now, if you are refering to the gimmick where things appear to fly off the screen at you, then you will have to wait until that feature is actually supported by enough people's TVs to warrant the development time for this.

Give it about 5 years.

Fallout3 (PC) can be run with Nvidia's stereoscopic 3D--you need a 120Hz monitor, a decent video card (or two), and the Nvidia glasses. Not sure about PS3, but I don't think any Xbox360 titles do 3D yet (do they?). In any event, you'll need a 3D HDTV (much more expensive than a 120Hz monitor) to run a console game in 3D, and I don't think the 360 would be able to handle the frame rate needed to produce a decent 3D image at a playable frame rate.

So, yes for PC (if you have the gear), no for consoles.

Yeah, and in 5 years I will still be against it.

Most likely never on the Xbox360, but if you have a Nvidia GTX 8800 or higher video card and the monitor and glasses on the PC you can run it. (Preferably a GTX260 or higher video card to get the best frames and features)

Did you forget about the ps3? The ps3 is actually the leading console for 3d so your post is confusing...

Framerates are definitely going to be an issue until another generation of consoles comes out. I've been playing FO3 in 3D for a few months now though on a PC, and it's great, I will not be going back. Bullet tracers look cool, faces have more depth and everything is generally less cartoonish.

If you're willing to wait a few more months, I'll swing by the Walmart, look at the diagnostics on the side of the box, then I'll let you know. Until then...How in the hell are we supposed to know? We get fed bits of info through an eye dropper.

Despicable Me
and now they have Step Up 3D!\

You say that now, but in the near future you'll be saying "WTF, where's the 3D support?" or "What are you doing playing that stone age 2D stuff?"

There's a lot of people here who say that they're annoyed by 3D and I disagree wiht their main argument: the biggest one I see around is that people prefer not to allow companies to FOCUS on 3D.

I mean: I loved Golden Eye 007 and Fallout 1 and 2 and Age of Empires II, and Civ 3, and Halo:CE, but, hell, I love Halo 3 and CoD, and If I could pay like 10 extra bucks for an optional 3D or an extra 5 so the company could develop eye-popping graphics, I would most definitely shell that out.

I don't think low production values and 3D/HD walk hand in hand unless a company already has low production values. I don't think I've seen good desogners make bad games to keep up with the graphics race: I've only ever seen people spending more of their own money on new and shiny tech.

More power to those people. I always watch movies in IMAX 3D when I can because it's cool, (and I bought an HD TV the same week as my Xbox 360): but I haven't seen less good movies being made (I mean since 3D, obviously most modern movies are trash). I have seen more people seeing and yelling about bad movies/games just because they are in 3D/HD, but not fewer decent movies/games from good creators.

That aside: I do not believe that Fo NV features 3D.

Apart from a few console titles needing to jump through hoops to achieve adequate framerates, game companies don't need to spend extra time making games 3D. Any shooter or isometric game is already 3D. All it takes is NVidia or some other graphics hardware manufacturer making video card drivers that can render from two different perspectives, instead of the usual one.

There are some things that companies can do to make their games more 3D friendly, like staying away from using cheap 2D post effects (Dragon Age did an amazing job of this - those crazy flashes and lightning effects that you can pause and look at from any angle look perfect in 3D). For the most part though they're already doing them - it's not like any major game company is going release something that uses old school Doom style 2D sprites.
