Does anyone know if the retail copy of this game will require Steam to activate and play?

Bethesda has clarified to Shacknews that the Steam page "does not mean anything one way or another regarding Steamworks. Too early to discuss." It just confirms that RAGE will be purchasable through Steam when it is released.

It will be sold on steam, so there will be a steam version. But we have no idea if it will be requiring steam in the retail release.

Hopefully not .... that's the down side of steam, using that application i never use, since i don't do credit card purchasing and basically cannot use steam even if i wanted to.

GFWL is obviously not there.

of course not. that was obvious with the release of crisis 2 on steam. but the question is will this game require steam in the retail version.

Carmack mentioned something abous using Steam in his keynote so it seems like it probably is.

Would be nice if they could confirm this or not, it's getting pretty close to release.

yaha i have called gamestop, newegg, bestbuy, Amazon, and Bethesda. Not one person could say yes or no. i would like to know before i pre-order. It is pretty bad when the only source discussing this is wiki.
