Will Skyrim lead to a new Fallout?

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 5:51 am

Do you guys think that Skyrim will lead to a new Fallout game?
Essentially Bethesda just copy and pasted Oblivion's engine into the Fallout series, maybe they will do this with Skyrim and Fallout 4...

I don't see why there won't be a Fallout 4 with the new Creation Engine. Bethesda won't give up a cash cow like that for no good reason.

Hope not. The next BGS game will either be on this round of hardware or the next. And usually the first game on new gen console suffers and so does the PC version.

TES can take that pitfall just like Oblivion. Now FO 3 wasn't helped much by being the second game other than writing but failed as a Fallout game vs 1 and 2.

However hopefully Fallout 4 will actually put back mechanics and competant writing.

Deus Ex: HR is a competant Deus Ex game. BGS has no excuse for a subpar Fallout 4 especially with the potential revenue from TES V and whatever other TES's after. And then Zenimax/Beth Softworks cash flow from RAGE and other bound to be hits.

FO4 will definitely be released at some point, the only question for me is if they feel like releasing a new IP at any point, or if they are content with only two instant GotY IPs.

Doubt it.

Something tells me they try a completely new title.

No it will not *lead* to a new fallout. The fallout will simply come along anyways, nothing to do with Skyrim coming out.

Using the new engine or not, waiting for the new consoles or not, just keep Obsidian the hell away from it.

Obsidian did a good job restoring the old aspect of Fallout, they should at least contract Sawyer and Avellone to do the Weapons and the writiings

That's not necessarily a plus in many people's books. A large contingent preferred Bethesda's approach in FO3.

Ho'boy, as much as I agree with you I fear that your comment just turned this thread into WW3. :bolt:

Yes, I believe that FO4 will come next from the Beth studios.

Hopefully not. I'm hoping they'll acquire the rights to something else.

I think they might try to make fallout 4 after skyrim since there seems to be a pattern of them making elder scrolls games for a while and then making the switch to make more fallout games. Other then that I kinda see them using skyrim to kinda putting RAGE into the spotlight a bit so they may work on the less famous titles.^_^

I think it's likely they're already working on Fallout 4, after all they've had a second game confirmed to be in pre-production for a while now, and Obsidian devs mentioned a few times during development of New Vegas that Bethesda stopped them from doing a few minor things that they wanted to do themselves. But considering Skyrim isn't even out yet we likely have a few years left before we hear anything about it.

Yeah, I'm one of them.

Me too.

I hope they never again buy the rights to an old series, and instead develop new IPs if they want to make something different. I'd enjoy playing a new Bethesda franchise without having to put up with a pre-existing fanbase like what happened with Fallout, which came with a fanbase that's to this day incredibly hostile to Fallout 3/ Bethesda fans.

Well, I don't think a thread in which we compare the two and who liked which more is allowed, but yeah, a good bunch of folk preferred FO3. I don't know if it's the majority, or the minority, just a great deal.

No thanks. I'd have to oblige for TES to go first as the next game they do will probably be a "cool down" period for BGS. Or it could be their best work ever. Fallout 4 being next still doesn't sound like a good idea.

I'd rather Bethesda just stopped working on TES altogether and put all their work into Fallout.
