Will the next Fallout game use Skyrim's engine?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 6:43 pm

And will Bethesda or Obsidian be making it?

Has there been ANY news on the next Fallout, for that matter?

This would be more approiate in the fallout series discussion, and there is allready a thread in there talking about Beth or Obsidian.

No news on it. Honestly I think Bethesda Softworks, being one of the bigger publishers, should do what a lot of companies like Ubisoft and Rockstar do. They should have different developer studios do different parts of the game. Obsidian can do the followers, factions, and quests and Bethesda Game Studios can make the world.

Also, how the hell did you think the Skyrim discussion was the right place for this?

This isn't much related to Skyrim, but I will add this. I think Bethesda needs to drop this engine and start over with a brand new modern engine. While it may be heavily modified, at it's core it's still the same engine they used 10 years ago for Morrowind.

That's definitely true. Imagine if they made a Frostbite 2 quality engine from scratch, but optimized for open world games?

Because it has to do with Skyrim's engine and the Fallout 3 board is practically dead

Did you mean Frostbite 2? There is no Frostbite 3 engine. Frostbite 2, modified for an open world game, would be a major leap forward over the current engine.

My guess is yes, Fallout 4 will be using this engine. I am sure Bethesda is working on Fallout 4. Bethesda did say they were working on 2 (TWO) games. At the time they didn't say what it was. Last year they said they were working on Skyrim, and the other game wasn't mentioned. Seeing how successfull Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas is, I am sure Bethesda is working on Fallout 4. Is Obsidian in it in anyway? Who knows. They could or they may not. I hope they are since New Vegas added alot to the franchise.

I give it another year or two before we hear about fallout 4.

I'm sure they are working on it right now, and it will probably come out in the fall of 2013.

Bethesda is probably making this, and I would bet Obsidian will be making another spinoff. I hope Bethesda leaves the entire west coast to Obsidian, they have the entire rest of the world to work with, just leave the west coast lore to many of the people who originally created it.

I wonder if Fallout 4 is for the next gen consoles, however it's good news that they are doing it parallel as in shorter time for fallout 4 and elder scroll 6.

Bethesda writes better stories but Obsidian makes a better game. Hmmm, maybe they can make a collaborative effort on this one? Also, it will be a while if Obsidian is making the next Fallout game simply because they are currently busy making the new South park RPG game at the moment.

I'd say the complete opposite.

They'll probably try to squeeze out one more game with the Gamebryo engine since they are so comfortable with the tech... so yeah, it could possibly be the next Fallout.

I wish they'd just drop the engine and license a modern game engine for the next Fallout/Elder Scrolls though... :(

EDIT: I know it's called the Creation Engine but to me, it will always be just a modified version of the Gamebryo engine...

I'm positive that BGS will use the Creation Engine to create one last Fallout for this line of consoles (360, PS3).

Bethesda will be the one making it, just like they did with Fallout 3. Obsidian got to make New Vegas and the Fallout MMO. That was the agreement, and from thereon I think BGS controls Fallout.

If Obsidian made Fallout 4, you can very well see this guy NOT buying it. Don't get me wrong NV was fun and had really good story writing and great features that F3 was surely missing. BUT, there were so many game breaking glitches from VATS, to not getting into locations, characters vanishing, ALL SORTS OF CRAP.

True I had glitches and bugs in F3... but nowhere near as ACTUAL Game Breaking as the ones in New Vegas. IMHO I don't think Obsidian even KNEW what to do with VATS and the engine and ended up fudging everything over..
