Will the Vigilants Of Stendarr turn hostile?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 12:54 am

I'm thinking of doing Azura's quest for Azura's Star - Due to their firm stance on Daedra worship and to destroy anyone consorting with daedra, will the Vigilants of Stendarr turn hostile to me?

There isn't any mention on the wiki as far as I can see, so I assumed not, but It would be nice to have clarification :D

No, they won't turn hostile, no matter how many daedric quests you do. Even if you've got an enormous daedric weapon swinging from your belt as if it was the most natural thing in the world.

No. Vigilants don't turn hostile even when you're walking around with a Dremora and Barbas following you.

They have been hostile to me and yelled something about "Daedra worshipper" after I got some artifacts, but that is likely coinsident. I don't think they will be because of the Star alone at least.

If you're caught doing something particularly un-natural... or maybe even "being" something particularly un-natural...

Expect to be cleansed.

No, I don't think they attack you. Even if you have done all the daedric quest and I have done all Daedric quest's and they don't attack.

I've been attacked by them twice when I was doing none of those things. In one instance I was near the quest location for a Daedric quest...perhaps that had something to do with it? In another case the Vigilant was fighting with a vampire and I think maybe my companion got clipped by a spell effect and attacked them on her own.

To be fair the Vigilant of stendarr might never go after Azura, Nocturnal, or Hircine, Those three are in the morally gray areas of the daedric influences.

All daedra are morally gray (there are actually demons but they are a race on a different continent) just some are neutral gray, others are light gray, and the rest are dark gray.

They wont even go hostile if youre a vampire with a necromancer thrall on tow.

A missed opportunity, but it fits the trend of nothing you do mattering.

City Guards notice and comment on the fact that you "Wield Azura's Star."
Vigilants of Stendarr- not so much.

I'm glad they included VoS in the game. My evil character basically harvests them for Cure Disease potions.

No they won't ever turn hostile unless you attack them. If you kill all the Vigilents at Hall of The Vgilent and the other tower east of Riften then they'll turn hostile. I had that happen one time and it wasn't a good thing because I didn't get The House Of Horrors started, since Tyrannus was essential that left me in an interesting bind. I was able to turn him non hostile by knocking him out then getting behind him in Sneak mode and then quickly talking to him and advancing the quest. He didn't attack me afterward and took a 5 minute walk back to Markarth, not attacking me once during the trip.

Word of Warning, talk to Tyrannus before killing the vigilent members.

You expect your actions to have consequences? This must be your first Bethesda game :teehee:

apparently they attack you when you're wearing daedric armor, but i'm not sure if its one piece or a full set that gets them mad

They don't attack but they in general just seem to be hostile to the player.

My Character had yet to do any Daedric quests and already I was told "may Stendarr have mercy on you for the Vigil has none to spare", then a bit further up the road I fought a bear and got a disease so I ran back and made them cure me! lol

I've only played "Morrowind", "Oblivion" and "Skyrim".

In all 3 of those games your choices have the potential to have a serious impact on your character, other characters and all of Tamriel.

I can only presume you gave up after "Arena".

Too bad. You missed out on some good games.

They don't turn hostile if you wipe out their Base Hut where they congregate. I mean come on, you see these guys wandering up and down the road, find their base and everyone has one liners.....destroyed the place and set it on fire. walked a bit more in the wilderness and they're still strutting around like Top Dogs ;p all in their non hostile towards the very being that destroyed their only branch in Skyrim.

Some choice have his consequences, but usually superficially written and developed by Bethesda. Superficially 'cause we have no choice actually and these have no real impact -or minimum -on the world.

Fallout New Vegas is a good example of choices/consequences,but it implies an "end" to the story, not feasible in the Tes series unfortunately.

But the real problem in my opinion is the lack of depth - more evident in Oblivion and Skyrim than in Morrowind - and this is due to a strict choice of Bethesda

more simplicity = more audience

And with "depth" i mean advlt contents and writing, choices and plausible consequences

i.e. Red Dead Redemption (apart from the superior writing of the "main story") even on side quests give you the opportunity to capture a criminal/prisoner -with a bonus. In Skyrim instead you have no choices - even with the Companions, you've to kill that person with no explanations, like Db do.

So, what are the differences if you choice to roleplay a good character or an evil one ?

Sorry if i have to say this, but even this "minor things" denote a blatant inconsistency in the writing. i don't ask Dante's Divine Comedy or Goethe's Faust in a videogame; only a bit of reliability and depth in a game rated "mature"

Nope, Fallout 3, Oblivion, and Skyrim, in that order. They taught to not expect much else than flashy open-world dungeon crawlers. Especially Skyrim :hehe:
