Perhaps something that will be in future DLC. Bethesda did the same sort of thing with FO:NV; there was a bunker that you couldn't go in until they released the DLC for it.

I actually don't know where it is - Windhelm is the city I won't set foot in outside the market.... seriously, I HATE that place.

Yeah there's a faction associated with it in the CK. Some characters even belong to it.

Looks like it wasn't implemented though.

Ah.
I take it this is only on the PC version?
I play on PS3 and don't remember ever seeing an Arena anywhere in Windhelm.

It's not in the PC version either.

What he's talking about is there are files in the CK showing that the arena was planned for Windhelm, but never implemented.

Well you should. There was a dog-like thing pit fight in ME2, so maybe they won't hang you for it.

I actually started some work on a mod that would restore the arena in Windhelm, and I have a general idea for alternative plans for it in the instance they decide to do it in DLC. The main issue I'm having right now is the scripting stuff. None of the vanilla Arena quests were ever finished, so all the scripting would have to be created from scratch without any real references as to how to do it. If they do the Pit in DLC, they should use the actual lore name for the Windhelm arena team, the Paladins. If not, well, I could just include that team in a mod.

LOL I must be one of the few that likes Windhelm

Though I am hoping that they will put seasonal weather into the game. It will be good to see Windhelm in the summer.

It will be interesting to find out what is to become of Windhelm pit.

Might be an dropped feature as in took to long time to get right, similar to the couriers in Oblivion.
If it was an expansion placeholder it would just be an door like the door in the mage university in Oblivion.

Yeah, the only traces in the accessible areas of the game that point to the arena are the fact that some NPCs still refer to the Windhelm Barracks as the "Bloodworks," and a small piece of corridor behind a wall next to the staircase leading to the holding cells. The worldspace still exists within the game data (either they plan on adding it back in, didn't have time to remove it, or didn't have the heart to delete it), it's just not accessible without mods.

Though I must say, the general layout of the Windhelm Barracks does make more sense when connected with the "Pit." It's kind of weird in the vanilla game with the seemingly random staircase to the right as you go in, leading up to the guard barracks, and that odd dead end just past the staircase that leads down for whatever reason into the prison cells, which I have always felt carried an odd gladiator feel to it. Now we know why.
