WindowsNvidia issue? Speedtime issues.

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 9:21 pm

I'm running into a rather bizarre issue. Running with the latest Nvidia drivers (and also happened with the first iteration of the 29x series).

After a while, things starts to get rather... jumpy in interiors. Not as in laggy or slow - the game will be running normally, then there's a sudden burst where it's like everything is sped up 100fold. The exterior world does seem to suffer from it as well, but nowhere near as much.

I'm inclined at this stage to think it's an issue with the graphics drivers, but has anyone else encountered this?

Do you have vsync enabled? Make sure it is on and you haven't disabled in the ini files or your nvidia control panel.

Enabling vsync doesn't make much of a difference, no. I've also noticed that on loading screens the smoke acts really oddly, and the main menu responses are... instant (as in no animation playing). Having Skyrim recreate its .ini files also makes no difference.

Not that it means much, but Oblivion's launcher identifies the card correctly (550Ti), while Skyrim identifies it as an 8800GS.

Are you using extra d3d9.dll files in your Skyrim installation folder? I don't know why Skyrim would not detect your card correctly.

Does this problem occur without mods? If it doesn't then please post a mod list with its correct order. I can be found in your plugins.txt, just do a file search.

I had been, but removing it made no difference either beyond it reporting the model of the card correctly.

Why I'm leaning towards driver/hardware issues here is that when I first play the game, it's fine. But the longer I leave Windows running, the more times I start/restart Skyrim, the more apparent the issue becomes. I note I had not noticed this issue with the 28x series of drivers. It also does not appear to affect any other game. I'm running Windows XP.

I am using drivers 295.73 and I don't have this issue at all except some items flinging around the room sometimes when I open a door but I live with it.

I am out of ideas so I can't help you :(
