Wireless HDMI

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 1:45 pm

Hey everyone! I'd LOVE to play Skyrim from my PC on my big-screen TV, the only problem is, is that they are about 20 feet away from one another and I REALLY don't want to run any long cables across my living room. A friend mentioned wireless HDMI so I did a search and came back with mixed results. So I'm going to throw out a few questions in hopes that perhaps some of you might be using wireless HDMI for gaming.

1. Is wireless HDMI transfer rate actually GOOD enough for gaming?

2. What are some of the better transmitters?

as with all wireless technologies, whether wireless HDMI is good enough for something depends on how much interference there is in play. Generally wireless HD audio/video uses the UWB, which allows for high throughput, but at the expense of range, as the signal strength quickly dissipates and easily has interference problems. So whether it'll be good enough for you depends on what kind of wireless interference exists in your planned area.

I'd say just run the wires, it's always better IMO. Cheaper too.

As someone who runs wireless to his Xbox, go with the wired connection.

Why do people insist on acting like a bigger screen makes any difference to the gaming experience?

Play on a 4" screen and ask again.

For any size screen, there is a distance which will make it fill up your FOV perfectly. There is a point where things start to get to small, but it's pretty damn small.

I don't know why, but that made me laugh.

At any rate. My wife asked me the other day, "I just don't understand why you are building a new computer just to play Battlefield 3 and Skyrim when you could've gotten both for the 360 and played it on the TV in High Definition."

My response to her was, "Because Battlefield 3 is meant to be played on Tactical Gamer's Servers and Skyrim has Mods and the ability to mod on the PC. Besides, I can pick the computer up and move it to the TV if I wanted to play it on the TV in HD. But why would I? Especially since my LCD screen has an HDMI input and I'm buying a video card with an HDMI output.
