I wish certain NPC's knew your factions

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 4:54 pm

I really wish that certain NPC's were able to recognize certain details about your factions, such as being the Archmage or The Listener. For instance, I am currently going through the Thieve's Guild questline after already having finished the Dark Brotherhood's. When it told me to go talk to Devlin I was surprised when he acted like I was some fresh-off-the-street-newbie, even though he should know exactly who I am, or at least have some knowledge that I am in the Dark Brotherhood.

I just feel that it would be really neat if some important characters like that were able to recognize that you've made certain accomplishments because face it, guards noting things is interesting, but just doesn't seem to cut it...

It isn't an important change, and unlikely to happen in this installment of The Elder Scrolls, but it would definitely be interesting when the next one comes out.

Thank you for reading!

I blame voice acting. If the text was all written, it would be much easier to make changes like this. When you have to go and record brand new dialogue for every action the player takes, it costs money and takes time, so you get situations like the one you've described.

Reognition of some kind might be nice, but it is not needed for me. What I would like is for a thief on the road to notice my Nightinggale Armor and realize I am not someone to be trifled with.

If I saw someone on the road looking like batman I'd be more likely to laugh at them than "realize they're someone not to be trifled with".

I would like a few more people to refer to me as "Legate". I mean Imperial soldiers hardly even say it to me. I like how Stormcloak supporting NPC's now treat me like [censored] though, such as the Blacksmith in Windhelm.

One of the wonderful (and unusual) things about the Stormcloaks as a faction is that once you've been promoted to the highest position possible and been given the title to go with it, the title will stick. Granted it's not a title but a new surname (or nickname if you play it that way), however once you have it you will run across other Stormcloaks (even random ones) who "recognize" you and address you accordingly.

Last night I took out an Imperial patrol who had one of my shield-brothers in custody as a POW. I killed the legionnaires and went to free the prisoner. I have to say it was pretty awesome when I cut his bonds and he responded by giving me the "fist to the chest" salute and saying, "Stormblade... it's an honor" before running off.

Well Imperial soldiers do on occasion refer to me as Legate, very rarely however, perhaps that's just in my save.

It's really weird when Guards says "Is it true? You're one of the Dark Brotherhood? Eh.. Well, never mind, sir." then next day he greets me "Let me guess, someone stole your sweetroll." (I cut out his throat afterwards)

Mm. Like somewhere in the game (on a loading screen I think) it is claimed that the Harbinger of the Companions is well respected thorughout all nine holds. This implies that people of importance should know the Harbinger is. Yet the only ones who recognize your status are the guards.

Hell, I wished my own faction mates knew I was with them.

Ask yourself this, If people knew you to be a thief or an assassin, would you deserve to be either of those two? The fact that no one knows who you are would serve to show just how good you are.

This is why guards whispering "hail Sithis" at you is so annoying and immersion breaking.
