I wish there was more legendary stuff to find.

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 4:44 pm

Not only weapons, but armor, rings, amulets, etc. While Skyrim definitely offers more incentive to explore than Oblivion, it still doesn't have the same lure that Morrowind did for me. I never once had the feeling in Skyrim that I did when I found my first legendary item in Morrowind - the Mentor's Ring. It made me want to search every little crack in that game. In Skyrim, I know I am going to find the same old things.

Anyone else feel this way?

I hate it when I stumble across a chest hiding behind a rock out in the middle of nowhere and after picking it open it has.... 100 gold in it.

:/

The chest itself is probably worth more than 100 gold.

Or 50 gold and a lesser soul gem. Good thing I wasted 20 lockpicks to break that master lock eh?

Chest loot in dungeon crawlers is traditionally underwhelming.

Spoiler
K: WHAM! You have broken the lock!

L: Do you want to loot the chest? Y/N

Y: What do you want to do?

[T] Take something out of the chest.
[O] Put something into the chest.
[Q] Quit

T: What do you want to take?

[a] apparel
[b] potions
[c] weapons
[z] all

Z: You have found a leather goblin cap (cursed), some fruit juice, and an iron dagger (uncursed).

however, in past games, those hidden, out of the way chests and treasure spots seemed to have a lot more unique items in them.

in skyrim , you find a secret-like chest and almost all have nothing of note.

this is the first time in a game where i have noticed that underwhelmed feeling so much.

I find that obvious chests tend to yield better stuff.

I came across one obvious chest in a dungeon after killing a Deathlord. It had Ebony Armour (Enchanted with +40 HP) in it! I was like WOAH! What a find

Then I find some secret chest hidden in a shipwreck, 10,000 miles under the sea and it has a small amount of gold, a crappy soul gem and a minor healing potion *yawn*

Going exploring doesnt seem fun to me because lack of loot. One is almost forced to take up smithing/enchanting to make decent gear. Doing this tho might make the game to easy because you can make some pretty deadly gear.

You would simply replace the stuff we call "legendary" with the new stuff and be back complaining again that there wasn't as much legendary stuff as there used to be. Your problem... not the game's.

I do enjoy exploring Skyrim more than any of the previous games, but yeah the loot is really underwhelming most of the time, even if you come across some unique item it's rarely worth using even if you don't craft(which is WAY to powerful). Love the dragon priest masks tho.
Can't say i'm a fan of the completely static unique items either since after awhile you know where everything is and it gets boring.
What i'd like is magical equipement to be very rare but awsome and more unique items with some unique effects that are random "drops" in dungeons, rewards from very long and/or difficult quests or tresure hunts(like the red eagle's sword quest, but not crap).

i can still remember how great it felt to find the white woe. i was like, holy blank.

same with the mentor ring, especially, after hearing about it through dialogue and then actually finding it, lol.

i completely agree with this if you crank up your smithing and enchanting and then the game offers you nothing better...period i mean in OB no matter what you enchanted you could always find something better like The Ring of Perfection and Ring of War, and other stuff like that...i spent a [censored] amount of time looking for those rings and never found them with the same character...i dont get that urge to search the deepest darkest nooks and crannies in skyrim or fight threw hoards of zomies, vamps, weird praying mantis type criters to find a ring

It works both ways
Every MW game I played the Mentors Ring, Amulet of Shadows, Boots of Blinding Speed etc were waiting to be found in exactly the same place as the last game

i understand your point completely. however, it highlights what gets me so pissed off in the first place: a lack of gaming advancement.

why can't we have the mentor's ring having a new random location for every new game with the associated vague reference to it's location?
why can't we have white woe uniqueness but placed randomly at the start of every new game?

the only answer i can ever counterpoint myself with, lol, is that i'm not a programmer and have no clue.

don't even get me started at the utter lack of a.i. advancement in video games. or, the fact that gamesas can't develop a game that remains difficult throughout.
or, every game having depth of customization and options, dialogue and meaningful quests.

I wish the legendary stuff we can find now didn't become obsolete to player crafting...or even simply gaining a few levels and finding a leveled item

and I gave a freaking solution to this issue in 2011 for the Fan interview

USE RS, MAKE RS GIVE CUSTOM/RANDOM Events/Missions for "legendary" Items and Artifacts, Base them on availibity via player level if you want to but this solves nearly everything

RS means it wont be in the same place twice, stomping the issue with Morrowind
It means the Items wont be leveled and you get it at its full strength whenever you stumble across it = player satisfaction in crawling 4 levels and 6 traps for a chest- stomping the issue with Skyrim AND Oblivion
And it means keeping a fresh face and adding additional replay value

exactly what was the problem with this

o.k. so it can be done. then, you just pissed me off even further: that means it was a development decision.

not, literally, at you, of course, lol.

I've recently been scavenging at least a FOURTH of the entire map of Skyrim, and so far came across 2 random conversations and a SINGLE easter egg.

In traditional Fallout games, the easter eggs come in larger quantities... you don't really get the same in Skyrim, and it is somewhat disappointing.

I only use loot I find and so when I find something unique in Skyrim it's not so unique. The enchantments are repetitve and basic and they look like regular items.
I don't feel rewarded when I find or earn something.

This isn't a traditional Fallout game? I'm not sure about the number of eastereggs in this game yet. I have read all of the ones on UESP, but there are still probably more obscure ones unnoticed.

I do remember some Morrowind easter eggs though. Like Pokemon and a Starwars one. Banhammer, Fishystick, Phat Lewt. I remember the first time finding the Head of Scourge also. Not very comfortable for an Argonian to find that.

More unique loot would be very welcome. Right now, the only reason to explore is for exploring's sake.

One thing that did make me want to explore every nook and cranny was when I found one single peice of ancient nord armour. Too bad it really is not unique/legendary...

Heh, another 'GTF offa my forum, I don't like your thread' post. Nice. Try not reading the thread if you don't like it, and avoiding posting inane trollish comments in it if you don't have anything to actually contribute to it, thanks.
